Re: APR/MAY Stitch-A-Long - Samplers!
I'm not the biggest fan of cross stitching (impatient + hurts my hands), and I love quilting, so I decided to do this as a quilt-along. Xanatos posted a quilt here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15305 which uses a cool technique where you cut out a zillion squares and then fuse (glue) them onto a lightweight fabric. You then stitch the seams to secure everything. I decided to give it a try for this.
I started by cutting about 2,600 squares (extra black, white, and background). They are 1" square and will finish at 1/2", so each panel will finish at 25". Over the past 2 nights, I've fused the squares onto the fabric. There are 9 panels (you can sort of see the outlines) which aren't connected yet (last step). Starting tonight (or tomorrow... I just made plans with a guy I like
), I'll start sewing the seam lines. So far, I've been in love with this method. I've been chronicling the project on my blog and plan to keep doing it over the course of this month.

Lucy that's a fab idea and it looks great so far! Maybe I should have called it a craft-a-long instead

I'll be able to put my patterns up tomorrow. Got to pinch my mothers laptop for it as they are on it.

Lol, thank you! I have a special ruler tool to help me cut so it only took about 90 minutes to cut all 2600 squares.kryssiecat wrote:2600? Each block will be 2500 squares (50 x 50) times 4 blocks = 10,000 squares. I'm a little crazy... errrrr... ambitious

I read your blog about this. Sounds like a fabulously interesting and easy way of doing it. Really look forward to seeing how it turns out.LucyInTheSky wrote:I'm not the biggest fan of cross stitching (impatient + hurts my hands), and I love quilting, so I decided to do this as a quilt-along. Just wanted to leave this here:
It's a Link with a Cucco I used last year - I changed all the pattern colours to more closely match the colours of the original image. Feel free to use it as a reference for the Link and Cuccos in our square pattern!
