Pokemon blanket

Post by stephyw2001 »

Here it is at last! My newest project completed!!! :pika

20 squares, brightly colored of your favorite original Pokemon characters. Patterns were made myself inspired by memories of childhood. I have not counted how many colors I used, but each square is a different background, and there are many more in the figures. I'd guess at least 30 colors in this blanket, but you can have the fun of counting if you like!

Blanket measures 5'7" x 4'6".
Made with acrylic yarn.

Sooo cute! Nice work; it came out really well! Did you have a pattern for this or did you come up with it yourself?

Beautiful work!!! :clapping: I haven't changed colors that much in crochet (just at the ends of rows and rounds)...was that difficult???

Looks great! Was this made using tunisian crochet technique?

Starrley thank you! I'm always so honored when my stuff makes the blog! :yahoo:

Pyper & Ally thank you!

Blackmageheart & Tigerlily - Thank you! I make my own patterns with simple graph paper and pencils. I then color them in with whatever I have on hand. I'll be honest, these pokemon patterns I made at work. I just looked up images online of the characters, drew their likeness on graph paper, then blocked in the lines. Then I assigned colors by coloring them in with different colored highlighers lol. It's really low-tech but it works! :) I don't actually use fancy softwares in my patterns. I tried looking at some, but they were too complicated for me. lol

Firehawke - I've been doing this for so long, its not really difficult. The worst thing about changing colors so often is when the yarn constantly tangles and gets knotted to itself. :banghead:

meowath - no this is actually single crochet. I started learning tunisian, but I didn't like the end look as much. I need to practice more. :D

Thank you all again! On a happy note, my mario mushroom blanket just sold on Etsy so yay!

There's nothing wrong with low tech, haha. My method for charts is similar just on the computer. I use Gimp with two layers; one with a chart of my gauge and a second with the picture I'm trying to recreate. Then I just select the squares I want to colour and bucket fill with whatever colour I like. So basically a computerized version of graph paper and highlighters, hehe.

Honestly I would probably prefer the graph paper method, but I can never find good graph paper at a reasonable price when I need some. :P

Also, congrats on the Etsy sale! That's terrific!
