Re: Weight loss/diet/nutrition - join me!
I purchased a Misfit activity monitor, and then for Christmas I received a Fitbit (which has a much better app for tracking) and they have been really helpful in motivating me to move around more. On days where I just don't feel like working out, I've been walking around my apartment while reading a book. I've also walked through my apartment building since it has 5 floors and I can get quite a few steps out of just going up and down each hallway. December was a rough month with all the baked goods that were readily available everywhere I went, but I'm still on track with my weight loss goals.
Anyone else have any good luck with their fitness goals?

No! I've had a horrible time recently. Despite exercising and eating relatively well, I've managed to gain 10kg since September. My gym closed in November and I've been doing my best without it but most of the weight gain was before it closed! I just don't understand it!lpgeorge123 wrote:Anyone else have any good luck with their fitness goals?
BUT! That all said, I'm so annoyed with my gains that I'm determined to do something about it.
Also, how is the Fitbit working out? (Bad pun, I know.) I have wanted one for ages but wasn't sure if it was worth dropping so much money on one.

I felt the same way about it, which is why I purchased the Misfit Flash first (plus they had it on sale for $25 the day I bought it). If you want to try a cheaper one, I'd recommend that. It gives numbers similar to the Fitbit, and in addition to telling your progress with steps it also tells the time. The downside to that one is it doesn't have a website where you can view your stats, and the phone app is very basic. But it still encouraged me to get moving.blackmageheart wrote:Also, how is the Fitbit working out? (Bad pun, I know.) The Fitbit Flex I've only had for a few days now, but I do like it. The app and website show a lot of different statistics that have been motivating for me. For example, the other day I reached my 10,000 step goal, but I hadn't quite walked 5 miles. So I paced around the apartment for longer to reach both goals. I wish I knew more people using Fitbit so I could see their stats and use that as motivation to get moving. If anyone else here has one, PM me and I'll send you my email address to add you to Fitbit!
I guess just watch the prices on Fitbit and see if they go on sale. The website camelcamelcamel is great for monitoring Amazon prices and it can notify you if the item goes on sale.

Everything you've said just makes me more interested in getting one! I'll take your advice and watch the prices for a while but I'm definitely going to have one sometime soon!

I just got the Fitbit Flex for my birthday, and I'm lovvving it. The sleep tracker is actually pretty neat, since it distinguishes between awake, restless, and dead asleep. The weird thing about it is that you have to tell the app that you are going to bed, so it will start tracking. Since I've been taking naps over the break, I tend to forget to do that XD The other downside is that if you wear it when you're asleep plus when you're awake, it's kinda hard to find a time to charge it. So far I've determined that I can charge it while I'm in the shower or when I'm sitting for extended periods of time.
Thumbs up from the silly Mishatu chick.

It's been super motivating. This weekend I was really in the mood to play some Hyrule Warriors. So I jogged in place while playing the game. I got over 5,000 steps today by doing that, and I got Agitha up to level 57 at the same time. Double win. The upbeat background music was fun to jog to.blackmageheart wrote:Everything you've said just makes me more interested in getting one! That's probably the first time I ever worked up a sweat playing video games.

Re: Weight loss/diet/nutrition - join me!
I have really dropped the ball this year. I luckily haven't gained too much, but my eating habits have gotten terrible with moving and busy schedules. I'm going to make more of an effort to pack lunches instead of taking the easy route of fast food (there are food trucks that come to my work every day; makes it really easy to eat poorly). I also want to start planning out weekly meals so that we cook at home more. Now that we're mostly settled in, this should be a reasonable goal.
Adding back in exercise will be round 2. I think getting nutrition back on track first will be helpful, instead of trying to change all of my habits at once.
Talk of the Fitbit is tempting. Several of my coworkers have them, and they "compete" to get higher step counts than each other. I have been using the free "iTrackBites" app in place of paying for the Weight Watchers app, but I've found it hard to stick to logging for more than a week at a time. I did really well a few years ago with the Weight Watchers app (even though it's essentially the exact same thing; maybe paying for it monthly kept me motivated?)
I'll pay for the app, and if that goes well, reward myself with a Fitbit in a couple months

Soooo, it's Jan 1st and that means resolutions for a lot of people, especially around health and fitness. Is anybody making a plan or setting a goal for this year? I certainly am, and it's to get that nasty 10kg off in the next few months. Then it'll be the next 10kg!

I'm hoping to (planning to/ determined to/ going to) lose another stone and a half. We had to go off our diet for a while because of finances, but now that the holidays are over, we are going to be getting back on track. I'm also going to get back to working out regularly. I still have a few 'Christmas presents' to finish making, so it won't be as often as I'd like just yet.blackmageheart wrote:Soooo, it's Jan 1st and that means resolutions for a lot of people, especially around health and fitness. I am determined though to reach my weight loss/fitness goals this year. I know I'll be able to do it because I got so close in 2014 before things went bleh.

I'm back in, too. I was very bad throughout December because life got in the way of exercising and everywhere I went, there was food... Delicious food. And since I was the one who made most of it, I can hardly blame anyone other than myself!
But now I'm on MFP again and I'll be going to the gym twice a week, squash once a week and a good long walk in the countryside once a week. Plus, this time my boyfriend is also going to be watching what he eats, so that should make it easier to stay on track (although he's already jokingly complaining that I'm starving him, so we'll see how long that lasts!).
