Star Wars Kid's Alphabet Book

Post by jadely »

I'm EXCITED :yahoo: about a project I'm designing for my currently pregnant friend. It's going to be an alphabet book based on Star Wars characters. In the pics I'm putting on here, the character designs are not included because they were designed by someone on Etsy, and I don't want you guys thinking I did it. I got the lettering from a cross stitch book I have. As I start finishing them, you'll see the finished product though.

I plan on sewing two pieces of aida together to make a front/back page. To make it into a book form, each piece of cloth will be 14 inches long; I'm going to sew all 14 pieces of cloth together (somehow :) ) in the middle so the book closes and is 7 inches. I'm going to fringe/fray the ends of the book edges, and will probably trim the book down a half-inch on all sides. As designed, the letter combos on one piece of cloth won't be in order until the book is complete. For example:

will be sewn to-

And then

will be sewn to-

That way, after the book is complete, turning the pages with go in order. I'll post some WIPS as I get going.

Wicked! Plus, if this works, it'll be a great base template for all kinds of awesome book projects!

So far the only problem I'm running into is my black aida not measuring the same per stitch as my white aida. I'd hate to do it, but I might have to make the cover white :(

I'll hopefully have some pics up mid week!

Here's the first complete set of pages! The front and back cover were sewn to A and Z with straight stitches. It was kinda hard to keep the holes all lined up, but I think it will be worth it in the end :) I'm going to wait till I have more pages done before I start fringing the edges.

Thanks Fiberwalkwithme! I hope it turns out to be a usable pattern for people on the site!

Here's another WIP update. I will have 7 "pages" to do, each having 4 images, and this is the second "page". I made a 2 inch binding for the book, and now I'm glad I have as it appears to be getting thick.

I've ironed the pages after I've finished, but I'm also considering washing the book and re-ironing it. I know I won't be able to keep all the creases out, but I would like for it to be a bit more crisp looking.

Enjoy!
