APR/MAY Stitch-A-Long - Samplers!

Post by blackmageheart »

Welcome one and all to another stitch-a-long!

We have some things to do before we get to stitching, though. We have to start work on some designs! Since we are doing a sampler in blocks, your design should be square. I suggested using 50x50 squares (that's 3.5 inches on 14ct) - does that seem alright with everyone? Please say so if you have a better idea!
Here is an example of what you can fit in that size square:

Now, the layout of the sampler will be something like this...

...with the designs where each square is. So, if we're happy with 50x50 - let's work on some designs! Please pick a game and include anything you like from that game in the square. Remember it should be easy and quick to stitch so bear that in mind when creating a design!

Any questions, please ask them here!

Are we doing what we did before and... Oh I forgot... Was it... Did we vote on them to decide the four?

A) should the square pattern have a border?
B) I'm guessing we don't need to fill all the stitches in the square?
C) game related only? No Dr who or whatever unless it's from a Dr who game? (Ps. Is there a Dr who video game??)

There is a mobile/Facebook game. There are apparently a few more, according to Wikipedia as well. Some even on the consoles. Hrm...I may have to hunt these down....

What are the rules for all of this? Like, how do we decide on all of the squares? Sorry, I've never done one of the samplers before!

Last time, we just all created patterns for a while, then there was a vote on the favorites. We had 3 that everyone stitched, and one everyone could choose their own. I can see the stitch-along working either way, with set ones everyone stitches, or everyone just picking their 4 favorites. Or, more than 4, if you're particularly ambitious. :) I also like the idea of making it like a mini stitched quilt.

My first one too and I just looked at the pictures of last year's [?] and didn't read any of the instructions ...

So somehow we get 4 squares, either voting or picking, whatever - but so the plan is to make 4 squares and put them in a 2 x 2 square layout? Since before it was rows, right? I'm trying to scope the overall project in my mind :D

I was leaving this for later but since people are asking, it goes like this:
1. We come up with as many designs as possible.
2. There'll be a vote for the favourites.
3. Three of the squares will be randomly drawn from the top 10 and everyone stitches these.
4. The fourth square will be chosen by the stitcher.

As for the squares themselves, they don't need a border but feel free to add any little details to the square design. They don't need to be fully stitched. And yes, game related - but if there's a game of something then use it by all means!

Hope all this makes sense, it's 5:10am and I haven't had much sleep!
