HIMYM quote
My first try at blackwork.
I love How I Met Your Mother, and I was really sad when it ended...so I channeled my sad into stitching!
I'm pretty proud of this one
The frame says "It's going to be legend-wait for it-and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the second half of the word is-dairy. Legendary"

Re: HIMYM quote
Looks great! My hubby and I just started watching the show. I personally think blackwork is fun to do.

Re: HIMYM quote
Thank you all
This was my first time doing blackwork, and I'm pretty sure I didn't do it right, because the back is not the same as the front, and I really can't figure out how to decide how to make that happen lol

Re: HIMYM quote
Could use Holbein stitch (running stitch) to make it *more* like the front, but it'll never be exactly the same.lcockitt wrote:I'm pretty sure that you're never going to have the back looking the same as the front...

Re: HIMYM quote
Well, technically, blackwork should look the same on both sides. However, some patterns would be nigh impossible to be so (like the words probably wouldn't come out right on the back). Blackwork was usually used to embroider cuffs and parts of clothing that would often be seen from both sides (either on purpose or possibly on accident) so they used patterns that could be done in such a way as to be the same on the front and the back. I'm fairly certain your frame could have been done this way and would have turned out on both sides if you had wanted it to. It is a lot of work and a lot of spatial thinking though so if you aren't going to have the back of your project seen, you might as well not bother, imo anyway.
Also, it looks great!

How would you start and end stitches if the back should look perfect? My backs look nice, but not perfect.MeiTow wrote:Well, technically, blackwork should look the same on both sides. I love this quote. I saw your post title and thought "it's going to be the awesome one"
