Chain mail armor

Post by Dragoniron7 »

Just wondering if anyone makes chain mail armor? I have been doing it for about a year now and have made a shirt already. Unfortunitaly i dont think i have a pic of the shirt and im sitting in Iraq while all my stuff is in storage in Hawaii. If anyone does do chain mail though, i would love to see some patterns.

Wow, that looks quite intricate. What is that you are making? Is it expensive to start as a hobby? So many questions. Please explain yourself, lol!!

im making my unit patch, i posted a finished cross stitch design with the patch as the center of the project. Expense depends on what materials you want to work with and do you want to make your own links or buy them precut. The silver links are spring steel and the colored ones are aluminum.....I paid around $300 or so for all my links a few years ago and made a full short sleeve shirt with mostly the spring steel and i have a bunch of the aluminum links and a few spring steel links left over.

Wow, that's quite an expensive hobby. I don't think Icould start doing this in the current economic climate (I'm skint!)

you can find some of the stuff on ebay or google "chain mail" to find some of the venders. It has been awhile since i bought all my stuff....just look for the best prices since the cost can add up
