Sorry, my bad, I was looking at the wrong sprite. The full body raccoon suit Mario is actually called Tanooki (tanuki) Mario. Tanooki's are also known as Raccoon Dogs and in Japanese folklore they are tricksters and shape shifters. In Mario 3 you can turn into the statue in order to avoid damage.Asinine wrote:Are you talking about the guy to the right of the raccoon in your title to the left? It looks more like snake-charming Mario...

Yeah, I actually googled tanooki and got a bunch of raccoon pictures when I first arrived here. So the black-and-white snake-charmer type always confused me/creeped me out.Servotron wrote:The full body raccoon suit Mario is actually called Tanooki (tanuki) Mario.
I didn't play much MB3 back in the day (it usually was restricted to holidays we spent with our family in HB that had the SNES), and I knew "tanooki Mario"...
I'm too poor to pwn, so I r3nt.

Re: Epic Mario Thru the Ages Pattern
yeah it's a "jizo" statue (see here). I had no idea when I was a kid but after taking 4 years of Japanese and reading the folklore I figured it out :)
Glad to see someone is making the pattern! I'm trying to finish a different project by early August so I've been kind of busy, let me know if you need anything.

hrm... "mizzmuzic2006" hasn't posted an update on the status of the pattern. This month is going to be crazy for me but I'll try to find the time.marlib wrote:really really would like a pattern of this as soon as possible

This thing is huge!!
I quickly put together a pattern for it. The floss seems to all match up ok.
edit: I did not delete the grey background in the KG-Chart file as I really do not use the program, so am unfamiliar with its functions.
