Re: Where do you get your supplies?

I just read through this whole thread, so I'm happy I've found another couple of options.

A few days ago, I ordered DMC threads online for the first time, from http://www.leisurecraft-tewkesbury.com/ , which I haven't seen mentioned in this thread, so for those in the UK primarily, here's another shop. :)

They sell the skeins of thread for 40p, which is much better than the only shop I know in my town that sells cross stitch stuff. For my order (which was about £10) the postage was £2, which wasn't as bad as some other sites. I haven't received my items just yet, but that's because the lady who runs this website is currently ill, and emailed almost straight away to inform me, which I appreciated. I'm so looking forward to it arriving. But for now, I'm just going to have to keep stitching white background!

I'm glad this thread exists, I'm looking for new suppliers now that HDF if winding down.

I've gotten supplies from:

http://www.nordicneedle.com - general
http://lovingstitch.net/wp/ - general, I used to go to their store when they had one.
http://www.silentstitches.com/scissors.htm - scissors, yes, they're pretty, okay?
https://www.picturethisplus.com/ - fabric - they have an amazing sale every July and their stuff is great.

patterns:
http://www.longdogsampler.com/
http://www.inkcircles.com/
http://www.scarlet-letter.com/

but I modify pretty much every pattern I've ever bought.

I haven't needed to buy DMC in a long time, I mostly use HDF silks and I have 3 generations worth of DMC since I'm the only kid who picked up the needle.

North Surrey, actually. But they don't have a physical location anymore. :(

Also the Richmond Michaels has one of the better Cross Stitch sections so far. I picked up some Variegated DMC floss, one of the 'new' color packs and (FINALLY) glow in the dark today. There's also Crafts N' More in Steveston. Much floss, many kits and a good selection of Aida/Evenweave.

King's Crossing Michaels has a good amount of Floss, but very basic on the kits/aida selection.

It depends, really. Years ago, we used to have quite a number of little shops that sold needlework supplies in the town where I live. Sadly, none of those are around anymore and there haven't really been any to replace them.

We have a huge Hobbycraft store. It's alright in some respects, but I'm not really a fan of large supermarket type stores to be honest, and much preferred it when we had the specialist stores because I was much more likely to find what I wanted, ironically. Hobbycraft doesn't seem to have the range of fabrics I want to try, even though it has more space than the smaller shops ever did. (I've also noticed that Anchor and DMC don't seem to have as many kits now as they used to.)

We do have another shop that's a department store which stocks some things, but they are limited and don't carry threads. Most of the stuff I buy is online now - SewandSo, Willow Fabrics and Enchanted Needle. (I get my DMC threads from the latter because they are cheaper than the other places. The price soon mounts up when you pay the usual price and I don't like using the cheaper/non-branded threads. I have tried them, but most of the charts are geared towards DMC, Anchor and Madeira threads so it's unlikely that you'll have the right shades anyway.

For books, I usually use Amazon. It's very easy to get hold of older chart books cheaply (but you might not always find it easy to get the right threads because the manufacturers change their numbers, or discontinue them, so I just go with the closet colour I can find if it's not available. I don't tend to use Anchor because they changed theirs massively at one point.
