Re: March Madness
A question for all UK folks.
Do stitching things cost more there? I looked at my local craft shop and in total the stuff that I need for one patch costs me less than $10 US and that's hoop included. That would be approx 15 pounds I believe.

Re: March Madness
For those who missed it or don't yet know (and a refresh for the rest of you!) - to coincide with the opening of the PPG forums we will be holding a design contest.
Contestants will design a gym-style "Patchwork Badge" for the PPG!
The winner will receive a prize and the badge will then be used as our logo.
This will be the first of our events, which we hope to hold on a regular basis! More details to come when the event begins!

Re: March Madness
For those of you worried that people will fall through - it's way too early to start that!
And besides, someone can always mail what they have done to someone else to finish when they know they can't contribute. Right now everyone should just feel good about trying to do something to help out - if we get this done you get to feel even BETTER.
As far as guidelines - not much has changed so that's not a problem. As far as I know the only addition was the 4th, brown background which, frankly, was needed. So lets not get worked up over nothing.
Wow like 6 pages were added in two days, that's kind of insane. I can't keep up... working full-time keeps you busy.
As far as a timeline - I can work on this until July but then I am moving across the country to attend grad school and I'm guessing that I will be MIA on here for a few months at that time. I hope to have my 2 patches finished well before that - my first one is already more than 1/2 way done.
@BMH - what is the PPG forum? can you link to it?

Not yet, but my hubby and I are working on it! Sorry we're so slow! But as soon as we get the PPG forums up and running I will let you know!
EDIT: Apparently there's something up with the host server and it's being slow. At this point my husband has passed out and there's no waking him. ^_^ We will get the forum up tomorrow asap. Gah!

Re: March Madness
It certainly costs more in Ireland. I've seen DMC thread for over a euro!! It's crazy. I usually order online and suck up the shipping cause it's usually cheaper than the stores around me.faewren wrote:A question for all UK folks.

First of all, £15 is equivalent to $24, so that's about how much we're paying per square (my last calculation didn't include aida or anything)
$10 is about £6.22, that's about how much a mcdonalds meal costs us.
Yes it is a lot more expensive. The cheapest we can find a skein of DMC for is 85p ($1.36), that's in the whole of London including 2 hours away near my university, although they can go up to as much as £1.15 ($1.84) per skein. To put it in perspective.
Aida costs a minimum of £10 per metre for 14 count.
So if we do it in the cheapest way possible, for 2 squares our costs are as follows:
60p per skein x 64 skeins (32 colours each)= £38.40 ($62)
add £10 for a metre of aida= £48.40 ($78)
add travel cost for aida, say an average travelcard- £6.30 ($10)
in total this comes to £54.70. ($87).
That's just for 2 squares. If we make more than two the cost does go down as we reuse a few colours but not by much. As we've always just bought specific colours as we need them for our projects, rather than a collection of random ones, if we don't already own a colour we have to order it.
To put that in perspective, £54.70 could get us a night in a pretty decent hotel.
Also I'm hoping to get started on my square today, is it ok if I do a design with Happiny and Chansey?

Re: March Madness
I completely know where you are coming from, the lowest price i've found in shops is 85p, but they can go up to over £1 for me too. we have pretty much the same expenses. Also, we are only doing Gen 1 soit would just be chansey, sorryLilMissFirefly wrote: First of all, £15 is equivalent to $24, so that's about how much we're paying per square (my last calculation didn't include aida or anything)

Current Projects:
Link and Triforce Square = 56% complete.
Kanto Map = 60% complete.
Hetalia sprites for Xmas presents. Other projects will be put on hold until these are done. Shouldn't take long though. :3

Re: March Madness
That is scary expensive!
I live in Canada and pay $0.49 per skein (which I still think is expensive!) and I got some 14 count aida that was 22x30 inches for $14, I think. Last night, I actually completed my collection of floss. I was tired of going to the store to buy a colour whenever I didn't have it for a project and that means my level of excitement would drastically decrease by the time I got the materials to start. I've slowly been collecting every colour and last night I finished!
(Except for the 6 colours they didn't have, but those don't count)

Wow holy * mushrooms batman! Well I am sure that I'm not the only one who is grateful for your participation and sacrifice.
And yeah, no Happiny as she's 4th Gen. No Blissey either, 2nd Gen. I'm afraid Chancey is all on her own.

Re: March Madness
For those in the UK, I've found http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ to be quite good. Their DMC stranded cotton is only £0.65 per color. They have always been fast in their shipping, even to me in Ireland. I've had it within 2days which I was quite pleased with and didn't spend any extra for it.
