Would making the quilt like that really look alright, though?...

Re: March Madness
Lack of uniformity would indeed make it a bit on the odd-looking side, but if balanced with the appropriate fabrics it could look like a cute eclectic sort of quilt.
Do you want to stop this project and take some time to figure stuff out? Like a better size patch or something?

Re: March Madness
I think you guys are overthinking this.
It's not about how much each person pays, it's about raising for donations, isn't it? Surely all the rest is a donation by the Stitcher's?
Additionally, quilt can have complete lack of conformity and have all different sizes of patches! The current quilt i'm working on has 2" square patches for example.
It also does not necessarily need to be huge! Again, the current quilt I'm working on will be less than half the size of what you're expecting this to be. It's going to be a lap quilt, and it'll look great if I can ever find the time to finish it.
Go with the patch size you have chosen already. People are in progress and have finished work already. If you want it bigger, you can add borders around each patch and the add sashing around it all. And never underestimate the size increasing factor of borders around the whole thing! The last quilt my mother gave me had borders that hung from the top of the bed all the way down, the actual pattern, though, was only the size of a single bed, and barely that!
Just get the squares done. That, in and of itself, is going to be a big project, one that I unfortunately don't have the time to commit to.
Trust in the fact that you're doing good jobs and that it will be great, no matter what, because that's the beauty of quilts, especially quilts like this that are made by many hands. It is the individuality of each patch that makes the quilts amazing as a whole.

I'll tentatively claim hitmonlee & hitmonchan.
Would something like this be ok? I'll try and make a pattern today, and I'll probably make some changes.

Re: March Madness
Although I did a quick example of what I would do if the patches were NOT uniform in size and some were 70x70 and some were 42x42. It wouldn't be terrible. Just would require some extra stitching here and there.

Re: March Madness
That's pretty much what I was trying to suggest. If we increase the borders around each square, we definitely do not need nearly that amount of patches for one quilt. Can we ask the opinion of tnitnetny, who is doing the quilting for the children's charity quilt? That might be able to shed some more light on it. We definitely don't want to give up on this project and too many people have finished their squares to really change the size of it.
I think we should also think about doing the lap quilts because it might be easier to sell smaller quilts than a super large one for a very large amount of money.

Re: March Madness
i don't really know what to say to all this... o.o i mean, the idea of a huge quilt was awesome, but if we're looking at things realistically, i think the smaller quilt ideas would be great. i think we would need to find out some more about how we should put the smaller ones together before finalising the idea. i loved Faewrens idea of getting at least one quilt done by Yule (christmas for you guys) at the latest as by August/September it starts to get colder and more so up the top half of the world.
Current Projects:
Link and Triforce Square = 56% complete.
Kanto Map = 60% complete.
Hetalia sprites for Xmas presents. Other projects will be put on hold until these are done. Shouldn't take long though. :3

Okay.
So now how do we want to sell the lap quilts? Divide by type? Legendary, Poison, Psychic - stuff like that?
You do realize that would open up the rest of the Generations right?

Re: March Madness
doing it that way would make them uneven, there are far more normal and water types than say, dark and steel. and what about dual types like Murkrow and Honchkrow? or Bellsprout/oddish's evolutions? they're both grass and poison, and since we would be doing more and unopening all the generations, would that mean we're using all the 'background' colours?

Re: March Madness
Now this is getting to be way complicated.
I was wondering why I wasn't feeling motivated to do my patch.
I'm really afraid this is just going to fall through and not really get done.
