I enjoy the streams when I have the opportunity to watch them! I also kinda envy the confidence you guys have. I don't think I could stream my stitching and it's mostly because if I had to speak, nobody would understand what I was saying! (Terribly strong regional accent, lol)
I'll be sure to make more time to check out all the new streamers :D

Since Twitch recently changed the layout of the site and the discovery of Creative streams, I'm updating my post with new links to the relevant categories:

https://www.twitch.tv/communities/crossstitch is the main Cross Stitch community on Twitch.

Other communities you may find interesting:
https://www.twitch.tv/communities/Embroidery
https://www.twitch.tv/communities/Knitting
https://www.twitch.tv/communities/Crochet
https://www.twitch.tv/communities/perler

Note that a lot of streamers are still learning of this transition and may still use the old hashtag system for a little while. If noone is live, you can try the old link: https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Cr ... rossstitch

Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in watching these Cross Stitch streams, even if you just lurk and never say a thing. All streamers are appreciative of any time you've spent watching their content.

Those who have taken the plunge to stream themselves will be more than happy to tell you that it's not as scary as it seems at first. If you've been considering streaming and need tips, advice, technical instructions, or anything - just ask! All the Creative streamers I've seen are friendly, welcoming, and more than glad to answer any questions. If you're not sure - you can message me directly.

You don't even need to show your face if you're concerned. And despite BlackMageHeart's concern about accents, I'm sure there would be plenty interested in seeing your progress. One thing I'm constantly amazed by is how differently everyone stitches. I've been stitching most my life and I've still managed to pick up new tips/tricks/ideas from watching all sorts of people stitch.

At the time of writing this, I have a list of over 60 people who have broadcast their cross stitch. And I hope to put this list together into something more presentable to share with you soon.

I was thinking about streaming my cross stitch. I had a friend who lived near me to help. He has to do more work on computer before I can start streaming. I have chatted a little to people who stream. I have lurked more that chat. It was interesting to watch people cross stitch. I watched a couple people do stuff. One was doing bags and another was doing wallets and a apron. It is amazing to see people do creative stuff.

Give it a try! It's a ton of fun. :)
Or lurk away. Sometimes it's just good to have relaxing 'background noise' while you do your own thing. Either way. :)

Oh, and I put together a full list of all the streamers that I've seen Cross Stitch:
http://twitchstitch.com/all-streamers/
a lot of them do other crafts, or stream their gaming, too. But all have Cross Stitched at one point or another.
At the time of writing this there are nearly 75! D:

I have been really considering streaming. Just not sure how to set it all up. I will need to get some cameras and maybe a second monitor. Since I am ill, all I do is stitch so I figured it would be nice to have others to talk to.

One camera is sufficient - not everyone does face cam, or doesn't start with one.
Depends on what you want to do/what you're comfortable with.

Second monitor is nice, but not absolutely necessary. I've seen some stream off a small laptop before. :)
There's a million articles out there on the nitty gritty of getting started, programs to use, how to set it up, what to put on your layout, etc.

Main advice I would offer is be a viewer first. Get to know how the Twitch community works, what you can expect from other viewers, learn the lingo and inside jokes, get a sense of the site if you haven't already, etc. And you know, make friends. 'cause they'll be the first to show up to your streams. ;)

If you have specific questions, I'm always happy to help, or can try and point you in the right direction.
I don't check SpriteStitch as often as I'd like though, so Twitter or Insta may be a faster way to get in touch if need be. <3

I'm also thinking of streaming now, it looks fun :) At the moment I'm just following people and seeing how everyone approaches it. I'm also not sure how to talk continuously about nothing particular, so I'm thinking of starting by streaming games while I get the hang of it, and figure out things like: what is discourse, whats with all the flying graphics everywhere, and why is there several minutes lag on comments going through?

Twitch only ever seems to list one or two streams running for stitching or crochet (I go through the communities pages), is there something I'm missing or is it really this quiet?

Talking to yourself for hours is definitely a learned trait. xD And yeah, much easier to talk about what's going on in an action-paced game than over a slow stitching process. Once you've a few regular viewers, they're usually more than happy to converse about pretty much anything, and you can feed off that. How was their day, the last movie they saw, their preference of pie vs cake, etc.

The 'lag' depends on internet connection and location. Usually only a few seconds, but can get fairly lengthy if you've spotty net. And is something you grow used to as well. And the flying graphics are different each stream, but usually a way to encourage interaction. If you use an emote in chat, it may pop up on screen, for example. Or if you follow, an alert will pop up encouraging the streamer to thank you for following them and allows them to start a conversation with you. etc.

As far as the listings - Twitch recently released 'Communities' rather than the hashtag system they had before.
BEFORE, you could put #Crochet in your title and you'd show up. Now you have to choose the Crochet community to be listed under crochet.
Which sounds all well and good, but it's so far down on the list of communities that streamers are not likely to be found by new people who don't know what crochet is, for example. So they list themselves under 'Relaxation' or 'Positivity' or any number of generic communities that are easier to be found. Unfortunately, that means if you're looking for crochet, it's even harder to be found.

Because yes, there are 80-ish streamers who stream CrossStitch. But sometimes they play games, or knit too. And they're all on different schedules. So maybe we only have 1-3 streams on at any given time.

You can try browsing Creative as a whole:
https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Creative

Or check teams designed around the crafts of your choice.
KBN, for example lists all sorts of fiber-craft artists:
https://www.twitch.tv/team/knottybynature

Pixel Stitch is more Cross-Stitch specific, but only those who stream semi-regularly are listed*.
(Or at least, they did at the time they were added to the team.)
https://www.twitch.tv/team/stitch

Or you might check the TwitchStitch twitter for 'going live' or schedule tweets from streamers known to crossstitch:
https://twitter.com/sirithre/lists/twitchstitch

....aaaand this is what I mean about needing to get to know the community first and how the site works. xD It can seem overwhelming at first, but that's why most people tend to watch a few specific streams regularly, who stream on a set schedule. Once you've found some streams you like.

tl;dr - EXPLORE.
