I'd prefer the least amount of colors possible, to just make it as basic as I can! I think I'd like to make them smaller rather than larger, no more than 10 inches across I think. Whatever you guys deem appropriate though!

Star Wars pixel pattern request!
Hi everyone! This is my first post, I just got into cross stitching and am so excited about it! This site is amazing and full of such resource and awesome people! I have a couple of Star Wars related pixel pictures I was hoping to turn into patterns!
I'd prefer the least amount of colors possible, to just make it as basic as I can! I think I'd like to make them smaller rather than larger, no more than 10 inches across I think. Whatever you guys deem appropriate though!
I have been trying to use myphotostitch.com to make the patterns (before coming here to ask for help) but it keeps coming up with a weird error message! Anyone have any advice for that?

Re: Star Wars pixel pattern request!
a few things...
- The 2nd image has a copyright. I, for one, would ask the artist for his permission to turn this into a pattern (since they are selling prints for $10). The Forum doesn't require that they be copyright free images but we like to respect artist rights whenever possible. You'll want to know if you can post the pattern or if it needs to be kept private too.
- The other two images seem to be shirt designs. That's why you aren't getting a good conversion (and may also be copyrighted?) You'll need to clean up the images first before importing to get the best results. You may even have to replicate the pattern by hand in an editor (to get the best results) before bringing it into a chart program and that's a lot of work.

As kuja.girl said, two of those are tshirt designs. Honestly the only way to do it is recreate the image in something like paint.
I'll have a try with the last one...

Re: Star Wars pixel pattern request!
Oh whoops I had no idea about them being copyrighted! I honestly found them saved on my friends computer and they didn't have any information on where they came from. I just emailed the guy Kyle who did the second one and the t-shirt people just emailed me back saying it's fine to use the designs as long as we don't sell them! They said to send pics in of finished work too!!
UPDATE: The guy Kyle that his site was linked to was super stoked about the idea, he said to go ahead and do it but on the condition that pics get sent to him of stuff I/we make!
SO, all in all we have permission from everyone now, officially to use them! <3

Sounds great! I'll work on the second one (the copyrighted one) tonight ;)
edit: Ok I really suck at re-sizing pixel art. If someone can help me resize it I can run it thru PCStitch and make a pattern.

Re: Star Wars pixel pattern request!
what size do you need it to be? I looked up a Photoshop tutorial on resizing it and it looks pretty easy and I could give it ago!

Re: Star Wars pixel pattern request!
The trouble is that the picture is a jpeg, so it has all kinds of artefacts left on the picture, with is a result of the jpeg compression. This is why it is better to save sprite pictures as .gif or .png files. As the jpegs are slightly blurred (you can't see it unless you zoom right in) when you resize them it screws them up and you won't get the same detail but smaller.kuja.girl wrote:Sounds great! Re: Star Wars pixel pattern request!
I should clarify - I have no trouble resizing things in Photoshop, *been doing it for years!
The problems that Servo mention are why I gave up.
I <3 PNG and I wish everyone saved their files as that, but alas, JPEG is the internet default. I'll give it another go today but after that I may give up. I'm also a perfectionist, which isn't helping...
