the idea has been thrown out there for a large project collaboration by our members...

The current idea would be to auction it off and donate the funds to http://www.childsplaycharity.org/.

use this thread to brainstorm ideas...I'll post a quick run down of ideas previously posted for people not following the other thread...

open spoiler for quotes...

You send the beginnings of your project to a specified person and they will add on to that person's project. For the purposes of here, a popular one would be to have a cross stitching category, and the person can either add onto a current cross stitch or a bunch of patterns included (fairly easy ones) and the person gets to chose one of the not done to do and add it to the stack. The time line is when you have it, you have until the end of the month you are supposed to have it to get it in the mail to the next person on the list.

The monthly challenges can still go on as you'd like.

Any other questions about it, I'll be happy to answer.

what if each of us had a square of aida.. and we did whatever we wanted on it and then someone sewed it all together as a quilt or tapestry or something...

we could auction/sell it for a charity (like child's play) or something?
discuss!

if this is done after the first of the year, i'm in. i'm swamped with projects for christmas (as i imagine most of us are) and won't have time to do anything else until after then. i like the idea of us all stitching our own separate piece and then turning it into one big project.

I'm a long time lurker, but thought I'd finally chime in for this. I'm working (slowly) on some of my own things for child's play, so I'd be interested in contributing to this.

I like the idea of making this something for next year, as there's not a ton of time left this year and the regular challenges could go on. I think it would be best to do as someone suggested and have everyone do their own little square of aida. We'd probably have to agree on a size and count, but that seems easy enough to pull off. We'd also have to find someone to sew it all together, but I bet someone will step up.

I think individual squares works better than a round robin type system because this way if someone gets behind it doesn't affect everyone. Also it has the added benefit of, if it gets lost in the mail going to the last person we don't lose the entire thing, we'll just lose a single square. I think the Penny Arcade guys are pretty responsive to their community, so if we get the ball rolling on this and let them know they might give us a shout out and help us sell it or even take it to their silent auction.

I love the 50x50 squares idea, and I think it would make things easier if we made a limit to, say any Nintendo character (would we want to include the M rated games in this?), and each character gets done only once, with someone keeping track of who is doing what.

I suggest Nintendo because they are primarily family friendly and the most recognizable. :Mario

That's it for my ideas for the moment.

I'm not sure we should confine it just to nintendo characters, as there aren't that many:
Donkey kong, earthbound, f-zero, kirby, zelda, mario, pokemon...

But I agree, that we should try and keep the games 'safe for work' as it were. But most pixel-based games are, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

We should only have one 'square' per character/game though. I don't keeping track of that, shouldn't be too hard...

i think the idea is great and i would be more than happy to do it for charity. At first i though it would be more cool to have a round robin system but after reading crabbyman post, i think it would be better to have individual square (it would be BAD if in the end we just lose everything :( )

I actually donc think that we should restrein ourself to only nintendo or whatever console/company/whatever, but maybe going with classic and reconizable game would be a great idea. In anyway, i think we should go with only one subject, and since this forum is about video game stitching, i think we don't even have to search for one. Yay for video game!

lol, lets do all THE pokemon ;) if we all do about 5 each.... (just kidding, though it would be kind of cool)
i do like THE idea of keeping track of who's doing what so we dont end up with 50 Zelda's or so

I think it would be cool to do some themed Afghans. I've seen a couple at craft stores for pretty cheap that have like 20 squares. Then we could do all mario characters, items, etc. (or something of the sort, it doesn't necessarily have to be nintendo I suppose).

I also thought it would be neat to do cloth DS cases. They are easy to make and easy to customize.
