NES Ornaments

Post by hmerritt »

Hello! I am a newbie that was lurking for the past month. I made 10 NES ornaments because I didn't have any and the store ones are lame. They are amateurish, but I couldn't figure out the mosaic stitch. I haven't cross stitched for 15 years or so.

I made:
Mario
Red Mushroom
Donkey Kong
Black Mage
Link (side-scrolling version)
Ganondorf
Triforce
Kirby
Samus
Megaman

I got the idea from someone who made pins with cross stitch NES characters, but mine are Dritz size 100 button covers. They were hard to find for less than $3 each... I embroidered on 28 count Aidas and put the fabric on the button cover. Then I hot-glued the red ribbon to the flat, metal back. The white spots are from the camera.

Very nice idea and ornaments! Where'd you get the materials for it?

Welcome to Sprite Stitch!

Those are some nice ornaments. I like Black Mage (nobody needs to point out how obvious that is) and the Samus best :D

Thanks!

I wonder if I should do a black outline on Mario, the Mushroom, and the Black Mage. It seemed to make the other ones "pop" more. I had trouble taking the buttons apart after snapping the back onto the curved front part, but it's doable!

I got the Button Covers at http://www.beverlys.com/half-ball-cover ... ilver.html

I got 10 because the shipping was pricey. Beverly's is in California.

I got an Antique colored Aida in 28 count, the DMC thread, and the red ribbon from Michaels and Joann (both had everything I needed).

I found almost all the patterns on this site, so thanks everyone that posted in the past! Too bad Bowser was too tall for the 2 1/2 inch ornament... That's why I used Donkey Kong :secret

These ornaments are such a good idea. I love Christmas ornaments with gamer designs.
