washing the fabric before you watercolor it wouldn't make a difference with the painting... as long as you let it dry first.

you also *could* use acrylics as long as you watered them down enough to make them plyable in the fabric! or then, like the creator said, it'd become a stiff sheet of.. stiffness! =)

Thanks guys! I can't wait to see what it looks like when the mat comes in! :D They said either Thursday or Friday so look for an update then. :nod

@BMH - That would work in a pinch, using Acrylic paint, but since I paint in watercolor anyway it seemed like the best choice. I think I'd still be worried about fabric stiffness but I'll have to do a comparison one day to see for myself.

@Kareesh - Pixel Pockets beat me to it, but yes, you have to wash your piece before painting on it. If you wash it after painting (even with using acrylics) your colors will run/chip off and dye your thread. I want to make one in the future where I paint it first, I just have to be careful about how I treat it while stitching so it won't need to be washed afterwards.
