The hoop is frustrating me, anyway. I have to fight with the canvas while I'm stitching (the parts of the canvas not included in the hooped area seem to keep getting in my way as I'm trying to stitch).

I actually prefer to stitch smaller things without a hoop, have you tried that?

Don't forget to post updated pics! I wanna see how he turns out!

Well, since you've asked for an updated picture, I think I can comply. :3

I'm aiming to have this entire thing finished by 11:00 AM tomorrow.

That's lookin' awesome!!! keep it up!

and Ohhhh that fabric is totally loose! until you can get a new hoop, you might want to think of another way to tighten it!
maybe... straighten a paper clip, put it through both sides of the loop, fold the paperclip into a U shape then twist? you want to make sure it's tight enough to keep the fabric flat!

I may invest in a lap frame at some point, although they can be expensive.

Edit: Here is an update on my progress. I wasn't sure how to go about doing a project of this size, so I decided to go down the center of him first, then work on the left and right sides.

In chain craft stores in the US, a wooden hoop is less than two bucks pretty much no matter the size. Plastic ones are a little more expensive and scale with size, but still aren't bank breakers by any stretch. Probably worth picking up a replacement whenever you get around to it.

I normally use a hoop, but I have to say that I've enjoyed going hoopless on my most recent project. For something small, give it a shot. :)

I will definitely pick up a new hoop.

I'm at the end of day two, so I'll post the current progress. Here it is:

Thanks for all your help, blackmageheart. I'm taking a break from the cross-stitch today because I literally did it yesterday from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed, and I'm very stiff and sore after that bodily abuse. I will pick up on it again tomorrow. :3

I'm sorry for the double-post, but I've finally continued working on this project so I thought I would post an update. Here's the progress at the end of day three (my third day stitching, not the third day since I began the project).
