triangles' newbie stitching

Post by triangles »

Long time lurker, first time poster!
Here is my very first piece I made on impulse, using a Christmas ornament kit that came with the frame and floss but slighty nerdier

My second project was a liiiittle ambitious for a newbie. My sister loves Dixie Kong and the DKC series, so I wanted to make this for her (September) birthday. I wound up finishing it on New Year's Eve!

I realized after the fact not to cut it BEFORE finishing and how to avoid "too thin" stitches doh.

I am stuck home on medical leave for at least two weeks with pretty much nothing to do, and I have two projects I am working on I think I will finish in that timespan :pac

I love the SNES Donkey Kong series too, so I really like your Dixie Kong and Squwaks stitch!

i've thought about trying some dkc stitches before since that was a game i really liked, but always backed away because it would have so many colors in such a small area with those fancy 3D-ish graphics. hat's off to you for a job well done

This is the 3rd thing I started, that I had been working on and off for over a year on (I started Feb 2011, soon after finishing the DKC stitch, and just finished last night!) Why I didn't ease into this hobby I will never know.
I had gotten frustrated, did non-game stuffs on the side, put it down for about 6 months at ~50% completion as I worked on Christmas things and blitzed the rest of it last week.

The image is from the Dissidia profiles. I don't care what the remakes say Terra will always have green hair none of this blonde nonsense :choco

I want to frame it like in the wooden hoop I was stitching it in, but it kept slipping and not staying taut so I'm going to have to figure out how to do that after I wash/iron and all....

Wash it, iron it, put it in the hoop. Then "lace" the free edges. This might help. You'll probably want to lace across, but around, if that makes any sense. Just make sure you get it laced from all directions and that its taut and that should help keep it in place.

Nice Terra! Reminds me that I've got a similar piece I really should finish (right after everything else!)

That made me say "wow" out loud - any chance you'll post the pattern?

Sorry for the delay - since I had last posted my laptop died and I thought I lost everything, but my husband's in IT and with some wizardry he was able to save most everything eventually including the pattern! Might be a few stray bizarro pixels, I fixed it up as best I could but I know when I was stitching it I made a handful of corrections.

I showed my friends the picture, and they said I should try selling it in the art show at the anime convention I go to over the summer so we'll see what happens. I give the lacing tutorial a try (though I don't know if I have enough extra material on all ends, might have to stitch some on like hem tape) to get it presentable.

Oh! And sorry for the double post but I didn't know how that would affect the attachments.

I had completed another project in the meantime. Now this one is a little unusual, it's a character from the Touhou Project series of shoot 'em ups, but this sprite was from a fighting game spin off. I've been out of work for over a month with a balance/vestibular disorder and my husband has been a huuuuuuuge help as I recover and doing all the household things I physically can't yet, so I made him a stitching of his favorite character from the game.

He was so excited he didn't wait until the spot where I missed when refilling the iron dried to take the picture! I plan to just hem the edges and thread the top to make a scroll type thing instead of framing. Beware the picture is absolutely gigantic despite being about 6"x7" :pac
