I need to try waste canvas at some point too. It seems like it would be hard though. I have a picture in my mind of all my stitches being uneven and the fabric bunching up :-) You've done a very tidy job here though - I like it.
Am I right in thinking you'd need to use a sharp needle for this, instead of the blunt sort you'd use with aida?

I use the same needle making cross stitch in cloth or in aida. I think that you will maybe need a sharp needle depending on the kind of cloth, but for the moment I didn't have to use another kind of needle

Re: Yoshi T-Shirt
I used waste canvas on these shoes and I started out with a sharper, non-cross stitching needle as I had the same thought you did. I actually ended up switching back, because while the sharper needle went through the canvas shoes easier, it also pierced my waste canvas WAY EASIER, and I couldn't get it to go through the actual holes it was supposed to. I went through three cross stitch needles for the project because they snap eventually, but in the end I thought it was still easier.amphibious wrote:Am I right in thinking you'd need to use a sharp needle for this, instead of the blunt sort you'd use with aida?

Wow, well if a cross-stitch needle could pierce those shoes, I'm sure it will be fine for the thin printed cotton fabric I've got in mind.
Another question though: In the tutorials I've seen it always says to use some sort of interfacing? Is that absolutely necessary, because for the project I have in mind that could be a problem. I think any interfacing will make it too thick because I want it to lay really flat. I guess I'm worried one layer of thin fabric will be too thin. But, er, I don't know what the consequences of that would be. In fact there's a lot I don't understand about this whole waste canvas thing! I guess at the end of the day I guess I just need to try it :-)
What's the worst that could happen?
