This was originally intended to be something for the Sprite Stitch Silhouette Challenge, but soon turned into a different project.

Silhouette Duck / Dog:

Image

Firstly, my inspiration for this project was "My Little Pony", instead this would be My Little Doggie. ;D So when starting on the silhouette in order to fit the duck silhouette into the dog's rump I had to increase the size of the dog, no problem, done. But I was undecided on a few things. Black for the dog, white for the duck, or the other way around? Or other colors? Outline the tongue, eyes, nose, or keep all solid? And one other issue, so much of the same color, could I really keep at this to completion without getting bored? While I wanted to stitch it, still I hesitated and in the meantime played around with some other possible silhouette ideas.

I filled the duck's color back in again, following that, not liking the rough super blocky edges on the dog I started to smooth them out so as to match with the pixel scale of the duck. During this process found myself adding color to the dog as well, okay, silhouette idea just got canned, this is going to be much better. Once dog was all done, happy with the results, still there was something missing, it was that boring plain collar, had two ideas for a dog tag, either small duck or bullet. My mom liked the bullet, I agreed. Bullet it is.

One other thing about this one, I'm actually stitching on something other than black aida, which wouldn't have worked being the black parts on the dog that needed to be seen, so stitched on light blue instead for a change.

Oh, one final note, I messed up with my measuring. When I had measured for the center of the pattern I took note that the center was at the tip of the duck's bill, but somehow once I got the needle to the material to start stitching my eyes and my short memory put me looking at the duck's wing tip instead therefore throwing me off a whole inch. But once I realized this error it was too late to fix it. My dog was too far forward on what was going to be an 8x10 pattern. Once completed I ended up having to cut a bit off of the left side turning it into an 8x9. Oh well, so its an odd size, no big deal. Never had I made a stitch error as bad as that, but at least I had some space that my dog didn't run all the way to the edge, I'd been screwed for sure.

I love it! The first thing I thought was MLP-style flanks when I saw it, so your intent was realized nicely. Very creative and inspired. :nod

Very nice! I love the idea of making MLP things that aren't ponies.

For some reason, I couldn't figure out what the bullet was when I first looked at it. Thought it was a birdcage, but that didn't make sense. Now I can totally see a bullet, though. :)

Adorable!
I think so, Brain, but can the gummi worms really live in peace with the marshmallow chicks?
I think so, Brain, but if they called them "sad meals" nobody would buy them.

My girlfriend's birthday will be coming up soon (November 8th) so I wanted to give her something. Can't be anything big (something I can easily ship to her) nor can I afford to buy her anything so racking my brain for a bit thinking of all the things I know she likes the Minions from the animated movie Despicable Me came to mind. I searched a bit for sprites on this, or something I could downgrade to look like NES sprites, but nothing that worked for me. Since I've never seen the movie I don't know much about it other than what I read during my explorations to find something to stitch from it. Then suddenly it hit, how their bodies with somewhat of a distinct line between their yellow head and blue overalls how they kind of resemble the capsules in Dr. Mario. So I got a yellow/blue capsule, enlarged it 200% then started filling it in to look like a Minion. Originally I was just going to do one of them (the cycloptic one) but decided minions can get lonely, he needed a pal, so I made another.

I just got to be able to get some lobster claw clasps, so that way she can hook them to anything she wants, even take them with her wherever she goes.

I struggled to come up with a satisfying idea for the Sprite Stitch Zodiac Challenge. Had plenty of ideas, just that they just didn't click for me. I was going to pass on even bothering to stitch anything for this, then just a few days til end of challenge one of them just comes together. Magically, instantaneously what I had been wanting just appeared in my head and I eagerly got the sprites together that I needed for it.

This was perfect, clever and just so damn cute! :) Everything that I wanted was there, the lion (from Kirby's Adventure), the Zodiac sign (from Solomon's Key, used as the lion's tail), and the name (letters from Ultima: Quest of the Avatar), and threw in an extra with the star (also from Kirby's Adventure, was going to use a sun but none were working right with this). And for a change, done on plastic canvas, a rarely used material for me. I am so happy with how this turned out, and that I got at least this one done before challenge was over with.

Not sure what I'll do with it, maybe attach a lobster claw to it and can hook it to my handbag or something. Still having much difficulty with Scorpio, gathered together a whole bunch of NES scorpion sprites but problem with scorpions in games, rarely have character to them (typically a minor stock enemy that moves back and forth), well lions don't much either (though are usually used as bosses), just lucked out that Kirby's Adventure had one of those and that's the one I kept focusing on.

That's a brilliant mashup - Dr. Mario and Minions; I never would have made the connection!
