Righty. It's currently 7/11/2011.

I've been waiting for this moment for weeks now, WEEKS I say! Two of them, in fact. And now, at last, I can start!

My project, for the forseeable future, is my very favorite character from the World of Warcraft universe. Yogg-Saron himself. The image I got the pattern for is the one out of the dungeon companion... whatever that is. It was made by the fantastically talented Dan Scott, whose artwork can be seen at http://www.danscottart.com/.

This is the image I'll be working from.

It's a little big, admittedly. My supplies turned up today, 48 of the 55 total colours and the cloth. The place I ordered from hasnt had the delivery of the other threads so far, but the lady was nice enough to send along the ones she had gotten.

Here's a picture of them, sat on my desk.

It's a Big Bag O' Thread, and it's mine, all mine! Muahahaha!

It's being done on 28ct Aida, and is 291x299 stitches. That's 87,009 in total, a number I didnt want to know. KG Chart estimates it'll be 26.39cm x 27.12cm. It's cost me £30~ so far, and will cost more, as I dont have enough thread, according to conservative estimates from a friend who knows a lot more about this than I do. But hey, it'll be worth it in the end.

*deep breath*

And so it begins.

Can't wait to start seeing WIP pictures of this!

Will you be flying off in your mechagnome helicopter blowing soda bubbles all the way when you finally finish?

I think when I finish I'll be having a party. And getting very, very drunk.

Yogg-Saron is an Old God, who (if I remember correctly) are based on the Lovecraft mythos. The first to appear in-game was C'thun, based on Cthulhu (in name only, as far as I can tell). The second revealed was Yogg-Saron, is based on Yog-Sothoth. Wowpedia gives us this little bit of info:
Yogg-Saron's name is derived from Yog-Sothoth of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Additionally, by the same turn, his monikers "The Beast with a Thousand Maws," or "Fiend of a Thousand Faces" are references to Shub-Niggurath, who is refered to as "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young" and to whom Yogg-Saron bears a resemblance. "That Which Must Not Be Named" may be a reference to Hastur, whose role in the Cthulhu mythos remains unclear.
The most recent addition is N'Zoth, who is yet to be seen in-game. It's thought his name is based on Zoth-Ommog.

Right, time for an update.

Last Monday, the last lot of thread I needed turned up. I now own a Smaller Bag O' Thread.

I've been going for what, two-ish weeks now. It's... slow going. However, I'm looking at the colours, and the intricacy, and I think I'm really going to like it when it's finished. My current plan looks like this.

That's page 1/24.

The stitching itself is poorly photographed, because I'm crap at it and I seem to have bad lighting everywhere. Here's the best photo I have right now.

Let's now put that in perspective.

Will I be insane by the end of this? All evidence points to: YES!
