Mushroom bibs and a Pocky hat

A buddy of mine had a kid and I wanted to make something for when I visit. I found a stack of new generic bibs lying around (we have two kids and accumulate way more clothes from grandma than we can process) so I decided to turn them into something fun :) The local yarn shop happened to have a massive roll of waste canvas that they were never able to sell for years, and they were so happy that someone asked about it that they gave me a yard for free! I decided to sew on some Super Mario power-ups - not much gamer credibility but the most recognizable to non-gamer friends:

I've also been working on sewing plastic canvas sprites onto toques and hats. (Turns out that Daiso - a Japanese department store - is an awesome source for cheap headgear.) This is a hat that I customized for my 3yr old:

It's Pocky from the SNES game "Pocky and Rocky".

Awesome idea, thanks for posting it! I can't keep up with friends having kids anymore and any idea to make gifts faster is very welcome!

So how did you stitch the plastic on the cap? Just the kind of regular way? I've been contemplating stitching a few things onto hats and I wanted to know any tips?

Also, these are awesome and amazing, and those bibs look great!

Yup, just the regular kind of way - though I skip over parts of the plastic canvas and concentrate on the bits that are going to stick out.
I dunno if I'm in any position to be giving out advice :) My stitching is pretty sloppy and I could use a few tips myself!

Very cute!! And now I'm going to try and see if I can get any great deals on fabric, how cool that they gave you some for free!
