I was wondering for your 28 count-aida, how many threads thick did you use?

Also you mentioned that you're working on 22 count aida as well, how many threads for that project?

I've got some big patterns I want to work on and am hoping to decrease their over all size by finally trying fabric other that 14-count aida.
Any other tips about working with those different sized fabrics that you've learned along the way? I would love to hear about it!!

For the 28 count Aida, I can't imagine trying to use any more than 1 thread, it's itty-bitty. I tried 2 threads for the 22 count, but ended up picking it out and going with 1. You could do 2, but it's going to have a puffier look to it, and personally I'm a fan of the smoother look. I've found that 1 covers the fabric quite well without getting bulky.

You'll be amazed going from 14 to 22 count how much further your thread takes you - I wasn't even thinking about it and bought 4 skeins of each color for the hawk skull - I doubt I'll use more than 2 of each one.

If you're a bit scared of the 22 count (I was!) I recommend doing a tiny project on 28 count first - going back to the Hawk Skull project after doing this project on 28 count felt like I was stitching on 10 count

I usually work on 32 and 22 counts so i know what you mean about the drop from 28 to 22.
As for thread counts on both 22 and 32 i use single thread

I went out last night and bought 18-count, and 22-count. I didnt notice 28 count at the store.
I also already started my mini-swap project using the 22-count and a single thread. So far I'm really loving how it looks,
would be nice though to have a better light, maybe on eof those fancy OTT-lites!
I don't know...if this project looks as good as I think it will, I may be a convert when it comes to
stitching bigger patterns! Going to keep my eye out for the 28 count at some other craft stores.

Ever since the first pic of this was posted, I was hooked. I HAD to go out and find them. The brand is Industrial Chic and in my wanderings on the net, it turns up in a bunch of searches besides Michael's (though if you are in the continental US, you might be able to order them straight from Michael's online). They come 2 to a pack at about $6 regular price (though I've been buying them one pack at a time and using their weekly coupons to get 40% off). They've started carrying bigger and easier to use ones as well in the Beads and Baubles line. A warning about these small ones, they are between two pieces of glass and forcing them back in to the frame can be scary - I was trying to shove a Mario one in a couple weeks ago and ended up with a glass sliver in my thumb. I definitely only use one thread and I don't knot at all (you'll have to cut it off the back anyway before it will fit). Just wanted to thank spinuntilyoufall for the inspiration! So far I've done a jumping Mario, a goomba, an octoroc, the boo with his tongue hanging out, and a little bee. There will be a bunch more for Xmas gifts.
