This is my second ever project, it's the World 1 Map from Super Mario Bros 3, SNES version. I got the pattern from here:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1117 so thanks to TMurdock for the pattern.
This is after roughly two weeks work, spending about 2-3 hours a night on it.
I haven't seen a SNES version of this map done so i thought i'd post a WIP - it will help keep me motivated too, this is going to take a while!

I think the more vibrant SNES colors will make this map look great! Keep updates coming!

Thanks for the replies!
Yeah i prefer the vibrant colours of the SNES map too, it's also the version i first played so i just had to do it. I'm not looking forward to the sand though, it's a bit complicated! But trying not to think about that yet...
I think KG made the colours a bit darker than they appear in an actual screen shot of the game, but they looked close enough to me before i started - i hope it turns out alright!
Here's an update, not too exciting but i'm getting there!

Try doing the sand in between the rest... that way, you'll end up having to do a little less massive sand in the end. I did it that way, and though I have only a little bit left, it still keeps me from finishing it... Cant imagine if I had to do all of it in the end.

It's looking good! Lijnloos is right though. The sand will be really boring if you save it for last. If I have a lot of a color to do, I usually do a thread until I run out and then another color and then back to it until the next thread runs out again. At least then it's broken up a tad.

Breaking the sand up sounds like a good idea, i think i'll do it that way. I was checking the colours for the sand last night and KG seems to be WAY off, it looks too yellow! Just got back from the craft store and after 30 mins of agonising and looking suspicious near the floss racks i think i've gotten some colours that matche. Will start on it tonight!

Hmm not sure what happened with that double post up there, sorry about that.
Not much has changed in this update as the sand takes forever to do - 3 colours all over the place, but i thought i'd post anyway. I had to rejig the colours for the sand so they are actually different to the ones in the pattern. I changed the light sand colour to 437 and the darker one to 976, the third minor colour i kept the same.
