Re: Blackwork Pikachu WIP
Seeing it finished, I don't know if it is the style for me, but maybe seeing framed will change my mind. Looks great either way! Also, I think that Squirtle's shell should be redder, like the Garnet color, but that is just my thought. I'd be happy to see more blackwork on here as I had never heard of it before.

Re: Blackwork Pikachu WIP
Wow thanks for all the comments.
The last picture of Pikachu was the finished one - Blackwork is a really open style of stitching. No more filling in to do. I'm please with how he came out.
As for Squirtle - please feel free to mess with him as much as you want. Blackwork has many many filler patterns, and you can always make up your own. The key is to keep it repetitive in all directions.
I would love to make more blackwork patterns of video game characters, but I admit I don't know where I want to start.
I'll post a pic of Pikachu when I get it framed, which will have to wait until March.

I added a background. I tried to make it look like a 'digital' background for a character who lives in a digital world. Now it really is finished!

Personally, I think I kinda liked it better without the background. Not saying the background isn't neato, it most certainly is, but I guess with just the Pikachu, it was more simplistic and neat, which is how the piece comes across with the blackwork.
But it does look very well done.

*laughs*
So I make it and I get "Good, but meh." as a response, and then I do it with a background and I get "Good, but meh." Hehe
there is no pleasing people. But I like the background, it actually encourages Pikachu to the foreground. It's the wrong color for a light yellow picture.
Anyhoo - thanks ya'all for the feedback. I might try blackwork again on a character, but probably not for a while.

Re: Blackwork Pikachu WIP
I like it and I think it sort of looks like a digital nature background with the green grass at the bottom then a sky sort of deal. I would say just different strokes for different folks I have always like the older needlework techniques so it is nice seeing them in a more updated way.

I really like what you've done with the Pikachu sprite, he looks fabby, but I have to agree with 'Kareesh' in that it looks better without the background. It's only a small design so it shouldn't be over complicated.
In any event, don't be disheartened by the negative comments! *hug* xxx

I think I might like this better with that background. The green on the bottom reminds me of the grass from Yellow Version on the GBC. Very spiffy.
