That's so odd that a framing place wouldn't be able to cut to item specs. But nooo they turn a customer away? Seriously - is there ANYWHERE else you could go? It seems like really bad customer service.
Want me to come and talk sense into 'em?

She never could explain it to make perfect sense. The stitches are straight so I expect the mat to be straight too. She said there is a bit of an allowance to cover slight imperfections and the make sure there's no white space in the corners. But, yeah, I'm with you. I'm less than happy about having to do that much more work just to cover it with a mat, but at least when it's all done it should be awesome. I've picked out a mod frame with a big red band inside the black wood. It's retro and cartoon-y.DWgrrl wrote: Why can't they make a mat to fit your xstitch. i think its lame that they can't do that. I would be soooo frustrated thinking i was done and poof, i need to do more work to fit a mat. but its looks great, good job

I still think you should look elsewhere or talk to a manager or something. If it is a framing place and they do it custom, that is really a bad business model. As a member of the customer service industry, I know that turning a customer away because they didn't get it right could get the employee fired.

That does sound odd from a frame shop, especially since I work in one. Three rows all the way around is a ton of excess to cover usually if any it is about a row max which just happens sometimes depending how the fabric stretches, some have more give then others. I'd wager either they are just lazy and don't want to make the effort to do it properly or are just poorly trained by someone else who doesn't do it right. Sorry to hear you had a bad frame experience and hopefully it will look good when finished even if you do have to put in more effort then necessary.

Thanks for the push Corbin. I took it to another frame shop and they said it was square enough if shouldn't lose any rows. The frame is going to be a bit boring compared to the ultra mod one at the other place, but at least I don't have to add anything else. Should be ready in about a week. Cant wait to hang it!

You'll totally have to put up a pic of it all finished, even if it doesn't have the cooler frame.

It sucks you had to sacrifice a little on the frame but you will most likely end up with a nicer frame job that is done properly which is worth it in the long run. I can't wait to see it framed and I'm glad you decided to have a second go at getting it framed up ^_^
