Super Mario Bros Wool Tapestry - questions in this thread

Post by glasnt »

Oh hi! ^_^

So I'm thinking of doing a series of 5 (or just 1 <_<) Super Mario Bros tapestries.

The contents would be:
1) SMB Title Screen
and if that works:
2) Selection of sprites in the above ground world
3) Selection of sprites in the underground world
4) Selection of sprites in the water world
5) Selection of sprites in the dungeon world.

First cab off the rank is the Title Screen. You know, just something like this: http://www.mariopiano.com/Super-Mario-B ... Screen.png

NES screen resolutions are 256 x 240; which means the entire thing would be 256 stitches by 240 stitches.

At the moment I'm using a cut of 20cm wide 10ct Canvas, with the DMC tapestry wool. If I use this same canvas again, I'll get a tapestry of about 65 cm x 60 cm. That means that I'll end up with 65 x 30 or more at the end of my canvas that I can't really use.

I could fix this by going a finer count, say 15ct, but then I can't use the DMC wool, only the Appleton Crewel wool (available locally, but supply is spiratic).

So, question: should I go for the 10ct largish side tapestry, possibly losing a lot of canvas, or go a smaller canvas, and have to invest in a different, more expensive wool brand?

I can always use my offcuts for smaller things, but that's a lot of offcuts.

Twas also reading about how there may be some copyright issues selling Nintendo et al things on Etsy. This will probably end up on there in the end, should I be worried that I might be getting a Cease and Desist letter? <_<

I need to work out these things before I start >_> I hope someone can assist

Hi there! I'm currently doing 2x projects on here using 10ct canvas and Anchor wool- I think you should stick to the 10 ct as you can always sew together smaller pieces of canvas to create a larger square- you get away with it because in tapestry you cover the whole surface, so unless it's pointed out (and you pick a point in the design that's really busy to cover the join) you can't tell where the join is.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks, this helps!

I have also discovered that I can just make smaller projects with the offcuts. I'll have to post up here my completed first one, which is a 2 x 30x40 stitch Bubble Bobble duo. Twas a bugger to mount, I tell you.

Would an idea for the in progress work to roll it onto a pole or something in between sessions?
