Simple Pacman Crosstitch! (and pattern)

This was my first cross-stitch! My grandmother used to do it, so I sort of winged it. I made the pattern I worked with.
It turned out with spaces between the stitches (can someone explain to this noob why this happened?) but I thought it gave it a cool pixelated effect!
Here is the simple pattern I made for it, if anyone was interested.

Hey I like the spaces. It's pretty cool like that.
In order to get the stitches next to each other, they need to share the holes. Eventually you figure out a sort of stitching rhythm to cross stitching. But I'm not sure how you did what you did, so I'm not sure if that helps. Something you can do is find a scrap of fabric and a bit of leftover thread and practice the thread path. Left to right, right to left, up to down, down to up, and diagonals.
If all else fails, head to your local library craft book section, or find a brick and mortar local shop and you can find your answers through written word or a kind explanation. Online stuff is great, but nothing beats an actual knowing individual that you can ask questions to.

I like the spaces in between the stitches, and thought it was intentional also. It works since it's such a simple pattern.
Anyway, when you are stitching, your work should look something like this:
You could try a simple search on youtube to see what you are doing different, but like it was mentioned before, to get the stitches next to each other, they need to 'share' the holes. So for example, your pellet in the middle:
XX
XX
would be made up by 4 complete stitches - the 4 stitches use 9 holes in total. The center hole will essentially have the needle pass through it 4 times. Hope that makes sense.

I think it looks good with the spaces.

Ooh - that's what this site needs - a video area for "how to's" with all crafts used in this website.

Tho that would be a LOT of work.

Well, you might have created the pixel effect by accident, but it sure looks awesome. ^^
I love how it pops against the black background.
