In addition to the plastic canvas companion cube, I recently tackled making a needlebook. I'd been wanting to make one for awhile, but wasn't sure how to do it. So I finally just figured that I would figure it out as I went along. Here's a picture of the pieces before I stitched them together (the "covers" are 14-count plastic canvas and the "pages" are made of felt):

And here are a few pics of the book altogether. Somehow the spine got misaligned as I was stitching, but I didn't want to completely start the finishing process over, so I left it. The clasp is magnetic and originally intended for a necklace.

I'm also working on a few other things - I'll post them soon!

And here's a picture of the book next to a deck of cards to give you an idea of the size:

Thanks! My husband was rather obsessed with Gargoyles when he was younger - he still has a Brooklyn mug on his desk. I'd love to find a decent pattern to stitch for him.

That is a really neat idea. Did you come up with that on your own or get the idea for a needlebook somewhere? That would be cool to make something like that for a child.

Thanks everyone! I didn't come up with the idea of a needlebook by myself - I had seen them numerous places, and it's easy to find free patterns/instructions for them online. I did, however, come up with the construction myself - most of the ones I've seen have been made with aida cloth, with interfacing or cardboard to make them stiffer. I thought that I'd just use plastic canvas instead, and just kind of made it up as I went along. I can post directions if you'd like, but pretty much all I did was use whipstitching to combine the pieces, and a running stitch to anchor the pages to the inside spine.
