Finished this one over 3 days. Black cloth isn't easy.

Ooh the fire looks great!
I have black aida sitting there waiting for the right project but I've never used it and so many people have said it's difficult to work with.
Is it really that bad?

It's not the worst thing, it's just difficult on the eyes. You have to strain a bit to see the holes, and having a lamp helps a lot. But because you lose so much light on the black already, it's very slow moving at times. I could have finished this project in a few hours if it was white canvas, it took me a couple more hours spread out over 3 days to get it done because I didn't want to hurt my eyes.

I've got more black canvas now for a new project and it's not as bad since I'm used to it, but I'm still finding myself missing my white canvas

I use a light underneath the Aida when I'm using dark colours, I find I can see the holes easier.

This is awesome. Y'know this would make a great monthly mini challenge - Only do the "It's Dangerous to go Alone, You Can Have This" quote. Then have it be any video game character like Mario with a fire flower.

Anyway, yeah, I would suggest using a lamp or light behind your fabric to make the holes easier to see, and if I'm doing a dark fabric I like to have a light colored background. I have a white table that I stitch on.

I use a white or cream blanket on my lap. Since I normally stitch on the sofa, it's hard to use anything else. And I have a spotlight lamp for above my head. Nothing can beat natural light though.
