Wedding Present-- Mario, Link, Pokemon

Post by psi169 »

Hello Stitching Community,

For my second post, I present a wedding present I made for my classmate who just got married. I don't post much and I think its important to take time to make very cool projects that are artful, rather than just stitching together isolated Pokemon and Mario sprites. I think this forum has are too many "WIP" posts. They have become the majority on this site and I hope this posts inspires others to make thoughtful and artful time consuming projects rather than eagerly posting random sprites and half-made WIP posts.

Thank you.

Your work looks great!

Your snide comment though, is unnecessary. We do a lot of meaningful projects here. Maybe many of these "WIP" posts that you're speaking of are meaningful to the person doing them. Maybe the WIP is going to end up as a meaninful gift to someone upon it's completion. Who are you to judge just because you're showing us something that was meaninful to you, doesn't mean what others do isn't meaningful to them, even if there are many WIP photos. And if you want meaninful, go check out the sprite stitch charity quilt post...

I have followed this blog for a long time. I love seeing everyone'e completed projects but this blog is difficult to follow when the completed project is buried in 30 pages and I am not sure which one to click . Although this is a "Stitching craft projects" tab, many of the posts are incomplete. I'd like to recommend there being a COMPLETED crafts tab and a WIP crafts forum. I think this is a very simple change that would easily make this blog easier to follow and perhaps more popular to non-stitchers.

Very nice work, I hope your classmate liked the gift.

A note about your comments - you are, of course, entitled to your opinions, as is everyone else on the board. However, please remember that these are people's personal projects and regardless of the subject matter, why they were made and what stage they are at, they are still their work and don't deserve such remarks.

I hope I haven't offended you and I hope you will continue to share your lovely work with us. :)

You summarized my thoughts perfectly.

After work, bf/husband, friends, chores (God knows those take way too much time...) and other hobbies/activites, it's hard to give any time at all to cross stitch sometimes... Peronsally, keeping a WIP thread helps me focus and not give up until I do eventually complete the project. I also love seeing other people WIPs! It's fun to see a project evolve.
Current projects :
Out of commission after surgery until May.

Currently playing : Speed runs of Biohazard HD Remaster

That is what I like seeing with the WIP posts. I like seeing other people's style too. For example, I look to see if they started with the middle or a corner, did the outline first, or blocks of colors first, how they finish and frame the piece, etc. I've learned a lot by looking at WIP pictures. Just recently I saw someone had drawn grid lines on their Aida, and that was a, "Duh! Why didn't I think of that?!" moment. I really like seeing the threads that show multiple projects by one person too, because then I can see if the different sizes of their projects, or certain trends in their subject matter. It is fun.

Generally when I only want to see the final result, I look at the last page of the topic and scroll until I see an image. That usually works.

Thank you Lileya. I love watching people's projects evolve too. It's fun to see how someone's project is coming along and the encouragement we give with our praise or the helpful suggestions, is sometimes what helps keep them going when it gets a wee bit frustrating at times. I know personally, I haven't posted may WIP photos except in the charity quilt post, but I have 4 different cross stitch projects on my desk right now. One charity quilt square, one kit that looks like my dog looking out a window, one birthday gift for a girl who just turned one, and one personal project that I am doing. Maybe I'll start a thread for my stitches, so people can see what I am doing.

I like the encouragement here on the WIPs posts. It encourages me to maybe take the plunge and do a large cross stitch.

This community isn't striving for 'perfected projects' but rather a safe place for geek crafters to share their love for the art of geekery. We should be bonding and encouraging one another.

That being said, your cross stitch is very neat and tidy, which is something I have yet to achieve in my work. Hope the people receiving the gift liked it.

I love seeing people's WIPs. And I like posting mine. It gives us encouragement and it shows a "behind the scenes" view of how some of these large or small projects are made.

Also, this is the forums side. It's different than the blog. The blog is set out in a way that does show the completed projects from all around the internet. The forums, on the other hand, is a place to unite people who have a unified passion. It's not completely about showing off completed projects for me. It's a community, and like all communities, there are different things going on at the same time.

I like the WIPs post because I get to share in the experience of the person without standing over there shoulder. I love watching how small blocks of color start to take shape and then BOOM! It's a final product. And as its been mentioned, this is the forums. Blog posts on the main page contain finished works. What gets posted in the forums is up to each individual user; it's a journey that can be short and sweet or one that takes you on a long walk through Mordor. What matters most is the support/suggestions/comments garnered by fellow users. Its what keeps others moving forward with a project and what helps others through a rut or brain fart on a project.

In other terms: Its all good! :D
I live under a rock, where it's nice and cool.
