?s about cross stitching on an iPhone case

Hi -

I just bought this for my friend (and am eagerly awaiting it) - http://www.amazon.com/Orange-Cross-Stit ... phone+case

Someone on here had made one which gave me the idea. I'm going to do a Boo, since he loves Boo. Anyway, so I was starting to think about it and was wondering how many strands I should use? Also, is there a way to secure the first strand? I usually will do a knot and then secure future strands based on the first strand (if that makes sense), but I wasn't sure if there's a trick with the iPhone case or if anyone has any thoughts. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you!

I checked via your link, it said "22 x 43 perforated surface" and iPhone 4 measured about 2.25 x 4.5, so it must be 10 ct, it may need 6 threads.

use 3 threads to fold half (2 ends of threads to meet to make a loop at the half to make a good anchor instead of knot).

To finish the stitching, needle through few stitches on back side then loop-sew once or twice.

Just a warning; I have one of these (or very similar) and after I finished stitching, it was severely warped. It kind of bubbles away from the phone and doesn't lay flat. Be careful how you pull on the floss.

I used 2 strands of floss and it looked fine.

I know what you're talking about, someone once showed me that trick where you fold the thread in half - what I don't remember and can't figure out is once I fold the thread in half, how do I get it to be secured without a knot? And I don't know the right words to use to YouTube/Google that

You make a slip-knot, if you have a loop sticking up through a hole, stick the tails in through the loop and pull the tails until the loop tightens around them.

I have one and the instructions that came with it say to use 3 strands. Not the same brand, but that's what it says.

I have made several iphone cases, but the ones that I sell and have made were on a stiffer material than this silicone one, so with that difference, I'm not sure how many strands you would want to use to make it look best. I have heard from several sources, though, with the silicone to be careful not to make the stitches too tight else the silicone get warped out of shape, like FluffyBunnySlippers said.

As for securing the thread, take one long thread and fold it in half. Then, thread the 2 ends through your needle. Pull your needle and thread up from the back through the case, but don't pull it all the way through. Flip the case/fabric over and slip your needle through the loop of thread on the back, then pull taut to secure. Easy peasy! This is the way I've always done it, and it makes things much easier.
