Something interesting I've noticed. On a different project that I am doing I have used the same color in two different places but when I put the different colors next to it, the same color ended up reflecting what was around it. Maybe thats what is happening here.

This is happening a TON on the DS9 project that I am doing - the first couple of times I freaked out thinking that I had just done a whole section in the WRONG COLOR - but after checking and rechecking the skein number against my pattern and holding thread up to both sections, it's just an optical illusion.

I wish that I could predict how this would happen (maybe I'll ask my science nerd fiance...) - it could be a really cool way to get some neat effects in patterns.
Current Projects:
Star Wars Stitches!
Child's Play Squares

Ah that's interesting! Right, I'll stick with the correct colours on Raticate then and see if it works! I was just worrying because I've read that KGStitch can give you the wrong colours sometimes, and I'm quite new to cross-stitching without using ready-made kits!

I'm quite excited now to see if this optical illusion will work :D

Wow, so stitching is a science now!!! I did it on ratticate as well and turned more brownish than I expected... So just go with the colors and stop worrying ;)

I've been stalking here for a while and I have decided that after I finish a few other projects I will do this one!

Could someone tell me what size needle to use and how many strands they are using? :D Also, are you guys using embroidary hoops, where do you find ones that are big enough for the whole project?

I don't think they make hoops for the entire project. And if they do you won't be able to handle it. It's HUGE!
I'm using 2 strands and a normal hoop. it's about 30 centimeters (about 12 inch) and it's called a number 8. When I filled it then I'm just gonna move the hoop. I don't worry about any wrinkles cause I have to iron anyway when I'm finished (in about 2 jears time... :D )
I have no idea what size needle I'm using. I didn't even know there were more hihi..

Needle size would depend on the fabric you're using. I think most people (or at least I am) are using 18ct aida. Personally, for 18ct, I use a size 28 tapestry needle and two strands of thread. You could probably get away with using one strand, but two gives complete coverage of the fabric.
As for the hoop, like Annelotje said, I just use a smaller one and move it around. If you wanted to you could always get a scroll frame that'd hold all your fabric. I tried using one for this project, but I found it to heavy to hold in my lap.
