How to make patterns online!

Post by Lord Libidan »

Currently there is only a few free online pattern maker, found here:

Patterns For You
http://patternsforyou.com/en/pattern_maker.html at patterns for you.
This pattern maker only works in DMC colours, and can only make patterns a max of 100 pixels wide.

To make your pattern simply click the link above. You'll be taken to this page:

Start by clicking browse to find the image you wish to turn into a pattern.
Leave the "Stitch" option as loom.
Then click the "view/hide advanced settings" button. In this option you can select different options for your pattern.
The first option is most important, as this sets the width of your pattern. Change the value to anything below 101, preferably the original image width.
You can also change the type of cell, which simply shows the pattern in different ways.
Then you have the option to pick colours, if you wish to limit the amount in the pattern.
Finally, click the "create pattern" button, and you will be taken to your pattern.

You must right click the pattern and click "save image as..." and save it onto your computer.

My Photo Stitch

This pattern maker also uses DMC colours, but has a slightly larger size of 150x119 pixels, although you are limited to 4 choices of sizes.

This one's pretty self explanatory.

Start by clicking "Browse" and finding your file.
You then have to select one of four options on size of your project. the maximum is 150x119.
Number of threads refers to the colours, select how many you need. The maximum is 50.
Click "Submit" and you'll be taken to a page containing your pdf, and which threads are used.

<shameless plug>I've just released a new free and open-source JavaScript (and hence, online) application (http://www.theoryandwings.com/software/pixelcraft) that will let you make patterns online for multiple crafts</shameless plug>

Cheers,

Thank you for sharing these, Lord Libidan.

Another to add to your list if you haven't heard of it already: http://coricamo.com/photo/?lang=en. It does all sorts of other kinds of customization, including a large list of color brands in the advanced settings. It DOES NOT create PDFs, but you can print it straight off, which looks really nice AND includes a preview image. You can save it in their format and load it back up on their site.

I use coricamo religiously, and there is a way to make PDFs. All you need to do is print to pdf in whatever way you have available. In chrome there is a button in the print menu that says "open in pdf," which is even easier!
