OMG that's hysterical. If it's well done well I'd just chalk it up as a student having fun with the assignment and let it go.katdun wrote: My brother is having similar issues with his students, haha. He teaches a class about writing in the workplace (I forget the technical name), and he assigned them to write out instructions for a task - any task as long as it was explained well enough to be understood by someone else. One student plans to write about "the proper way to shotgun a beer." I asked him if the assignment was done well, if he would count is as a win as a teacher or a fail for humanity. lol
Also, that email....

Re: Venting Thread, or FML!
Going to be a Debbie Downer, but that's the reason for this thread, yeah?
Anyways, 3 people have passed away in the past week, ranging from a church member, to a family member, to one I only knew through my parents. Yet, the one who is most distant to me is actually the one I'm having a harder time with. The first two were elderly and it didn't really come as a huge shock when they passed. Sad, yes. Surprising? Not really. The third one, however, came as a huge shock to everyone.
This man was a pastor in our convention (all "our" churches in my state). He had a wife, kids, and grandkids. He committed suicide in his backyard while some of his grandkids were in the house. No one saw it coming. From everything I've heard, he was well-liked and well-respected in his congregation and community. He was even suppose to be at a meeting next Saturday. This hits me pretty hard due to my own struggles with these type of feelings, but also because my dad is a pastor. I know what they have to deal with on a daily basis and how much strain is put upon them, yet little thought is given to how they are feeling or what they are going through, or even if they need some sort of counseling or help. I don't know the reasoning behind his actions, but it certainly has given an extra boost to be more mindful of what other people are going through, especially those who we don't normally think of as needing help.

Thats really tough Kareesh. Its always difficult in these situations, best you can do is help comfort his family and try and celebrate his life and all the good that he did.
Same with the other two that passed.

Kareesh, condolences on the losses.
That's a reminder everyone could use more often. I think I'm going to send a note to a priest I know today.Kareesh wrote:it certainly has given an extra boost to be more mindful of what other people are going through, especially those who we don't normally think of as needing help.

Re: Venting Thread, or FML!
Thank you everyone. Today is the funeral for the church member. I'm helping out with the meal for the family/friends after the funeral, so I'll be doing that instead of making dinner for my hubby. Not a huge deal for me, since we can just delay it. Then we have my daughter's birthday party on Saturday, and a birthday dinner for my dad on Sunday. Busy busy busy celebrating life in different forms.

Fuuuuuuuu
My husband has been getting a bit burnt out on his job and even got FMLA for work-related stress neck pain. Well, he took advantage of having it and skipped work for 4 days...all unpaid, infortunately. This means his next check is going to be pitiful, putting us approximately $400 short and we won't be able to pay all of our bills on time. I hate playing "Which Bills Can I Pay Late"
I wish I could at least get a job making minimum wage. I hate feeling like a burden, especially when he's going through some anxiety issues, too.

Re: Venting Thread, or FML!
I need to vent this morning because I'm losing sleep over this. My husband is re-enlisting and the man kept throwing Germany out there as our most likely duty station. Now, that's exciting. I would love to go to Germany! Buuuuuuuuuuut...I have two dogs and I worry about traveling with them for that long. A flight is hard on a pet- a flight from California to Germany would be torture. I'm not worried about the price because we've set aside money for this possibility, but I just can't shake that feeling that it'd be hard on them.
The other option would be to leave them here with friends or family. Now, my little FatDog (his name is Fatsticks) would be okay. I have like 6 members of my family who have already tried to keep him when we vacation so I know I could get someone to watch him while we're away (minimum of 3 years). Mia on the other hand is a WIP dog. We got her after a really cruel family had her. They starved her, beat her, and left her caged from the time she was a puppy until she was a dog. Once she was a dog, they got rid of her. That's how we ended up with her. She's the sweetest dog I've ever known and is DEFINITELY a pleaser, she just goes to the bathroom on the floor when she's excited, she chews everything in sight, she's pretty much allergic to everything, oh yeah...and she's gigantic. I don't think anyone in my family would take her in and I don't think I could bear giving her away because she's become family.
Which brings me back to shipping them. I keep going in circles in my head over this and it's not even set in stone yet! I hate being a worry wart.

Yep... the flight would be a torture, but no as much as giving her away !... a hard time but as time goes by it will be ok...
Does it cost a lot to travel with big pets by plane ?
You can also ask your vet for some help, there are some medicinal products which can help to relax, or to sleep, so they won't notice how time flies...
