Re: Venting Thread, or FML!
Lol too funny! I witnessed something similar when I lived in Montana, except replace "furnace" with "pot belly stove" and "squirrel" with "bat."

Re: Venting Thread, or FML!
I've got a bird out of a gutter drainpipe last year... it was spring and evidently it thought the drainpipe would make good nest site except it didn't. A car had squashed the exit shut so I had to go grab some pillars to get it open. Scared the bejesus out of me.Kareesh wrote:tl;dr - Squirrel in furnace = long day for Kareesh.
And it's colder today! So count yourself lucky it happened on a "warm" day (meaning above 0º F) lol

I can't even tell you folks how sucky the "polar vortex" has been here. During the first week of the year, it was colder here in Chicago than it was on MARS AND IN THE ARCTIC. It hit -60 F (with the windchill)...my company was awesome and let us work from home but it has still had a major impact on the mood. I am so ready for this cold to be over. It is supposed to hit -25 again sometime next week. Ugh.

I thought we had it bad with 5 F / -15 C temperatures (before wind chill) out here, but you've got us beat hands down! Colder than Mars and the Arctic... sounds like it might make a profitable T-shirt.

I feel ya... This is my first winter in Iowa and it is hitting me hard. If we had more snow then it might be fun but only have enough for it to be annoying. Also the weather flip-flops from being ok (i.e. highs 30's to 50°F) then the next day plummeting to highs under 20°F. It's driving me nuts!BooChocoBoom wrote:I can't even tell you folks how sucky the "polar vortex" has been here. Oh and there's a "Blizzard watch in effect from Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening..." FML lol

I love this about the world; while you're going through major cold snaps the likes of which I've never seen or experienced (I thought wind chill in Sydney and Melbourne was bad, but it never dropped below freezing!) Australia's going through a pretty nasty heatwave! The weather has been consistently over 42°C (somewhere above 100°F for you guys) for nearly two weeks now!

Re: Venting Thread, or FML!
So I have to vent a bit, but it's only because I'm super frustrated at the situation right now.
I was told today by the doctor that I have an inflammatory bowel disease (most likely ulcerative colitis). I live in the middle of nowhere, the nearest town to me is 30 minutes away. The doctors here told me that they don't have the resources to treat me here. They're sending me 2-3 hours away for treatment every time I need it. We couldn't afford for me to go an hour away all the time for physical therapy that I need, what makes them think I can afford THIS???
Ugh. The silver lining to this is that I have had pains in my stomach since I can remember and even though it's not a great diagnosis, it's nice to finally have one.

My first year in Iowa I don't remember it being terribly cold, but we had 2 feet on the ground for a heck of a long time (I think we went over 100 days of snow on the ground in a row)kuja.girl wrote:I feel ya... It being this cold is making me not leave my apartment, which I tend not too much anyways. Waaay too much bother to bundle myself and my daughter up. So looking forward to warmer weather where we can be outside!

RWR, that really bites. But like you said, at least it's a diagnosis. Are there any carpooling options?

In the southern US where I'm from, we call 100+ "July and August".Ally wrote:Australia's going through a pretty nasty heatwave! The weather has been consistently over 42°C (somewhere above 100°F for you guys) for nearly two weeks now!

Re: Venting Thread, or FML!
I'm one of the executives on the LGBT+ Pride group in our city which is entirely volunteer run.
There's an event tonight and we've had it planned for like a month. I tagged everyone in the FB group who is part of the committee and aside from myself and the president, we've had all of TWO other people in nearly thirty say they would help. And this has been happening more and more the farther we get away from our initial year-start meeting in August. There's only a few people who will volunteer and I'm sick and tired of feeling like I NEED to volunteer for everything.
If people don't want to be a part of the damn committee, I wish they'd just leave the Facebook group. And the only time I see them say anything is when they're complaining about something. Never mind that one of the other executives is now basically turned against the president and I because he can't remember us discussing a parent support group THOUGH WE DID. I just want to scream at him to go F* off somewhere because he's barely done ANYTHING for his position since he got it. Same with the vice president who has basically been non-existent.
