So I've got a question for all you veteran dragon breeders out there. How do I raise my limit once I've reached it? Is there anything special I need to do? I'm curious because I saw the limits in the help section but it didn't say how you could raise it.

I think the limits are just automatically raised, I don't remember having to do anything different when my limit was raised from 4 to 5. Just wait until you see that you have the bronze trophy and then try for that 5th egg

As for limits, i've never had to do anything, they just happen automatically when your little statue rolls over to another colour (or appears in the first place!)
