Fallout Themed Wedding

Postby PinkPoodle » Mon Feb 15, 2016 8:18 am

Hi everyone! I'm getting married in May and we are having a Fallout themed/retro 50's themed wedding. We're telling our non-geek and older guests that it's retro 50's themed because they won't get the Fallout reference. We're going to dress up in retro clothes. I've made Fallout food boxes for decorations at the buffet table (Insta-Mash, Pork n' Beans, Yum Yum Deviled Eggs, Blamco Mac and Cheese, Fancy Lad Snack Cakes, etc) and the centerpieces are going to be Nuka Cola bottles with baby's breath flowers.

I'm having trouble with the ceremony, though. The reverend I've found wants to do a traditional ceremony in Shakespearean english, but it just doesn't fit. Has anyone else done a Fallout themed wedding? What was your ceremony like? Any ideas on a ceremony script? I don't want it to be over-the-top Fallout, but I don't want it to be boring and generic.

Wooo! Congratulations!!! :clapping:

Pfft. Nuts to the Reverend, he may be officiating, but it's not his wedding, what you need is someone with a voice like Travis from Fallout 4, imagine the Reverend talking like that. Be so awesome.

The decorations sound amazing!!!!

Hmmm.... "I would battle my way across the wastes for you" "Not even nuclear apocalypse would stop our love"
"you raise my strength and endurance, so I can face the toughest of challenges" "I will be your hired gun until the end of time"

You could pretty much do some casino stuff and it would be like Fallout New Vegas. I wonder how much it would be to do a casino reception.... Could do, whatever the "house" wins goes to charity, perhaps one for those affected by war....

Hmmm.... I don't know much about weddings....
Trying to think of something for the caps.... Maybe subtle. Cap shaped confetti?

Congratulations!! Your wedding sounds awesome. I had a Mario themed wedding (when we kissed at the end, the NES Mario 1 castle music played). It was awesome.

Can you find someone else to officiate? It's your wedding, so (within reason) who cares what the reverend wants? You can have a friend get ordained, or, if it's important to have an actual minister, find someone more open to things outside of Shakespearean English. In the States, the only thing you need to make a wedding official is for the officiant to say "by the power vested in me by <source>". Anything else can be whatever you want.

If you move the wedding to Seattle, I can officiate :D

Congrats!

We did a nerdy wedding, too! Really subtle though...like you couldn't tell that the music was from video games unless you've played them. Someone called me out on one of our pre-ceremony songs! It was S.S. Anne from Pokemon Red/Blue played by a string quartet lol

An idea for the officiant: you can write your own vows! That's the most important part anyway. (Also, I'd see if I could find a more lenient one, or see if you can compromise).

You could use caps for wine glass charms!

Thanks for the ideas everyone! We're meeting with the reverend this weekend to exchange ideas.

I like the bottle cap wine charm idea but we can't have alcohol at the venue. I made some Nuka Cola caps to put on the tables instead of confetti because I don't want to have to clean up confetti. And Lucy I would love to move to Seattle or at least visit sometime. My city is getting me down.

I'm just outside of Boulder. You know, the pot capital of Colorado. A lot of people are moving here and driving up rent prices.

Come to England! I live here! I can come to the wedding dressed as Piper.

I think you've got some cool stuff going on. I don't know anything about Fallout(I've never had a chance to play...) But it all sounds nice.
But I'd love to pass some advice to you anyways.
1. Don't get too wrapped up in details. It's an important day in your life, but it's like 3 or 4 hours. The whole day is going to fly by and very likely you won't be able to remember half of it. Everyone told me that before my wedding, and it was true.
If you get wrapped up in the details, it's going to make you miserable. Instead, delegate some of the things you can't get quite right yourself. Then you'll be thankful about them instead of frustrated. My uncle preached our wedding. The vows were tradional, and no one was bored (and he preached for like half an hour we fore we got to the vows). But he's done lots of weddings and knew what he was doing. I let my aunts decorate, besides telling them that I wanted the reception hall to not look like a gym (it was the church multipurpose room) I let them go at it and it was amazing. If you just can't stand what somebody is doing give them a little direction.
(I'm a relaxed person, I let everyone else worry my wedding day. I decided I was going to have a good day and I didn't let anything fuss me up. And we couldn't even find my dead mother's wedding lace. We didn't have anything old and we still got married.)
2. The wedding is about you and your spouse. Make it a reflection of both of you. If you don't care about a tradition, then don't do it. It won't make you less married.
3. The wedding is for your friends and families see you get married. There's benefits for you too, but they'll probably get more out of it.
4. Laugh. If something goes wrong, think about how funny it will be to joke about it later.
5. The goal of the day is to get married. Very little is actually necessary to get that done.
6. Eat at your reception. It's better that way. Keep your blood sugar up all day.
