In similar news, my aunt gave me enough to buy a players handbook! Just have to wait for them to be in stock now!

Even if they have them in when you go in this week, I'd recommend waiting til you play to buy one. You might find that its just not your cup of tea, and you can read the relevant rules for the most part on the free version I linked to you. Keep the money until you KNOW you're going to keep playing this. Also, remember that there are other RPGs out there, so I'd almost say wait to buy until you've found a group that you are going to continue playing with so that you can get the relevant game material for that game. It might not be D&D!

I made a character! I made a character!!

Well i'm in the middle of making one. But here's what I have so far;

Barbarian Halfling.
Chaotic Good
Outlander

Strength +2 (15)
Dexterity +2 (10)
Constitution +2 (14)
Intelligence +1 (13)
Wisdom -1 (8)
Charisma +1 (12)

Armour Class 12
Speed 25 ft

Hit point max 14
Hit dice 1d12

Lucky
Brave

I've decided on blue eyes and brown hair.
Female
Background- Outlander, bounty hunter. More used to own company, not used to socialisation apart from on business. Doesn't care what others think. Says and does what she wants or thinks is right, which can annoy people.


What else can I put? My DM wants me to put something down for; Personality Traits, Ideals, Bonds and Flaws.
What kind of things go here?
Would the lack of social courtesy (for lack of a better term) be a flaw? And I suspect she'd be quick to anger, is that a personality trait?

Flaws are often specifically in the rules set. Look at the rules and see what they have there.

Tbh, I'd go through the rules and see where they mention each of those things. Some might not be there, but if your GM asked for it, then its likely there are some mechanics involved potentially or at least guidance from the book.

Cora Greenbottom
Halfling Barbarian bounty hunter.
I got hit by 3 points today in my first session. But I also chopped someones head off with my greataxe! My armour class saved me at one point.
We almost lost our Teafling but luckily our cleric came back from prayers in time to heal her!
I got a total of 93 exp points today and we shared some loot so I have 18 gold pieces!

I am hooked!!! Holy pants! I loved it! It's fun watching, but really fun and exhilirating playing!!

Still a bit unused to the stats, but getting there.

Sounds like a blast! I'm glad you had fun. I really love the mental image of a halfling barbarian screaming across a field, greataxe at the ready, gnolls quaking as she approaches. Wish I could sit in!

Yeah me too! Took ages to decide, most of yesterdays drink and draw actually (but thats ok, didn't really like the theme). Just clicked and today I came up with the name Cora Greenbottom and I like her more and more!

They got a second DM and we were in a new venue so the original group was split in two and us new guys joined. My friend is my DM, which is good as I didn't know the other DM or the majority of the other group.

Picked up where they had left off last week in the keep, me and the cleric were already in the keep and decided to join them as they looked like they needed help. And it just basically went on from there. A lot of info to take in too. Then two fights. Then captured a guy for interegation and left it there.

I'm gonna print out a fresh character sheet and try and keep it all neat and tidy. Oh yeah! I now have a Players Handbook which I will be reading through quite a bit before the next session!

It sounds like you've found a good group, which is great. I admire your desire to keep your character sheet clean. I have long since given up on that, mostly because I feel like crying at the amount of paper I'd have to go through. Since I gave up, I've realised that its not that bad though as sometimes when I look back at my characters (I keep em all in the same folder so it happens when I'm bored and start flicking) then notes I'll see will jog my memory of good times.

BUT!!!! BUT BUT BUT- keep your first draft of that character!! I still have my first character from college, and I love to look back at it. There's nothing quite like your first character to treasure, so I really do encourage you to keep your character sheet somewhere for posterity.

Seconded! And after the session, maybe write some quick notes down of especially funny or memorable things that happen in the game in a little notebook. The memories from a campaign fade fast, so it's often helpful to have a reference for all the good bits.

I don't know if you'd find it worthwhile, but what my partner and I do in our home campaign is write a new character sheet for each party member every time they level up. It provides a nifty glimpse of how the characters developed as the campaign progressed.
