Everyone who's struggling to stick to their diet/exercise plan while feeling ill: don't beat yourselves up! You need to take it a bit easy if you're under the weather. I'm sure you'll all get back on track soon!

Also, I heard a funny story today that you guys may appreciate. There's a guy who has just left the company where I work, and recently he's lost loads of weight. So a friend of mine, when saying goodbye and wishing the chap luck in his new job, commented on the weight loss and said he looked great. The chap replied, "thanks - I just wish it wasn't because I've had gastroenteritis for the past month...". :sick

In other news, I continue to struggle to keep to my calorie limit on days I don't go to the gym - especially on weekends. I probably just need to plan out my meals a bit better...
Current projects: 'Heroes' sketch, experiments with surface embroidery.

Definitely. Don't strain yourself. If you end up hurting yourself then you'll have even longer to fully recover. It's better to take a day or two off than to do serious damage to yourself.

I find myself in the same boat some days. Even some days when I do work out, but my planning wasn't great. For instance today, I wasn't planning on dinner with my SO, so I just had something small-ish before going to my knitting club. I get back home and we both need dinner. Oh well. As my friend says, 'Just draw a line under it.' I'll do better tomorrow. :)

I just started week 1 of the C25K podcasts today. Got all the way through it without feeling too winded, so yay my DDR training has helped my cardio, but I still got some knee pain starting around the 6th interval. I was able to finish the whole thing, so I'm just going to be keeping track of where my knee starts getting sore so I know if it's getting better, or if I need to start doing my physical therapy (ankle weights) to strengthen again. :( It sucks that I really like running but have so much trouble with my knees.

I've started C25K several times, and gone through to about week 7 at the most. Hoping I am able to stick to it through all 12 weeks with this forum to keep me accountable :)

Haha, that is quite amusing! I not only appreciate it but can relate! I have a very dodgy stomach at the best of times and I have had gastroenteritis on quite a few occasions. I'm actually putting my 0.7kg (1.5lbs) loss in the last week down to my stomach upset!

How exactly does the C25K work? Obviously it's about running and stuff, but what are the podcasts about? Do you listen to motivational stuff or is it like instructions as you go or something else entirely? How do you track progress? (If I have a better understanding of it, I'll be better able to make sure you do it  )

I'm lucky - I have trouble with my knees and I hate hate hate running. :nod I tried C25K soon after the Boston Marathon bombing, but my legs just weren't up for it. Now I just run for about seven minutes on a treadmill as a cardio warmup before and between strength and flexibility sets.

It's more about interval training, like walk for 90 seconds, jog for 60 seconds, alternating until you've reached 30 minutes. The length of time you jog for increases each week for 8-12 weeks until you can run consistently for 30 minutes. Most of the podcasts have cues so you know when to walk and run as well as music or encouragement or whatever. The one I've got is (I think...) called 'Run Alice, Run!' and it's more of a horror story to listen to where you kinda become the character and you're cued in to when you have to start running away from the monsters! It's quite atmospheric, and makes it way more fun than just listening to beeps!

The one I listen to is just techno music with a guy telling you when to walk, run, etc, with an occasional "keep it up!", "almost done!" etc.

I used to use the NHS one, with a woman called Laura offering advice and support inbetween telling you when to run and walk. I'm very tempted to try the Zombies, Run! one though. The issue I have with them is finding the time to do them 3 times a week. I had a crazy idea about doing them before going spinning, but I've also recently gone through with the crazy idea of going to Zumba after spinning. C25k then spinning and zumba seems a ridiculous idea...

Yay, congrats!

I finally hit a wall last week where I didn't want to work out and let my food slip a bit, too :( Hoping C25k will get me back on track; I think I was just bored with doing the same workouts every week.
