Started Reading the first book, Wool, in the Silo Saga. I usually read a chapter while falling asleep but Ive ended up reading a lot more and sleeping a lot less. Fans of Fallout will probably enjoy this book. Its basically about life in a "vault" after an undetermined apocolyptic event. It follows various characters through their daily lives in a fragile close knit environment and centers on a mysterious ritual called "The Cleaning". im about 1/4 the way in, good read so far.

I decided I haven't had enough classical education, so I've been reading Plato's The Last Days of Socrates. I'd read excerpts before, but never the whole thing. I'm most of the way into the Phaedo, the last of the four dialogues, and so far I gotta say that if I ever met Socrates, I'd punch that sonofagun in the face. What a self-important, insincere toolbag. Congratulations, dude, you managed to be the least jerky of the jerkwads in Athens.

I also decided I haven't had enough modern classics under my belt, so I started on Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.

I flew through the Silo Saga by Huge Howey. I really enjoyed the series and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good apocolyptic world with a mysterious twist. I decided to grab a couple more books by him. I started reading "I,Zombie". Its an interesting twist on the zombie genre. Various stories told from the perspective of the zombies themselves. I kinda roll my eyes at Zombie books of any nature now since the market in general is well past flooded. I wouldve never even given this book a chance if it hadnt been by this particular author, but I am glad I did. Its a sad, thought provoking tale. Good read for anyone who enjoys zombies. Its a relatively short read (306pgs), I read through half of it in one sitting. Probably finish it tonight.

Read a couple of books since I last updated. I finished The Hangman's Daughter and A Reliable Wife and enjoyed them both. Hangman is about a hangman in...I want to say 13th century Bavaria and the sleuthing he, his daughter, and the town doctor's son do to solve the mysterious murders of of four kids. Since the book is translated into English it's a bit odd, sometimes, as the translations don't quite...well...translate in some parts. Overall, it wasn't too terrible of a book. Not great but not horrible. I will probably read the other two in the series at some point. A Reliable Wife is about...the book makes you think it's about sex (it's mentioned A LOT) but really it's about the human condition. It's another historical fiction book set around the 1800's during a particularly bad winter in Wisconsin (with part of the book taking place in st. Louis). An elderly man advertises for a reliable wife to marry that will help him find his long lost son. What he doesn't know is the woman that answered the ad isn't quite what she appears to be. This book was dark, dingy, and somewhat depraved. I really enjoyed it even with all the thoughts of sex (what else was there to do in the 1800s, really? lol).

The book I'm currently reading is Diana Gabaldon's Outlander and I can't seem to put it down once I pick it up! It is a historical fiction romance book but the sex isn't in your face and the story, itself, really stands up on its own merits. A wartime nurse gets transported back to 17th century Scotland while on vacation there through the magic of a stone circle. She's thrust right in the middle of a war between the English (which she is) and the Scottish. She ends up with a group of Scots and living the life of a woman/physician in that time period. There she meets not only the 6-times great grandfather of her husband in 1945 but also a handsome young Scotsman whose life ends up entwining with her own as they both try to keep their heads on their shoulders. A very good book so far and one I was told by many, many people to read and I encourage anyone else that likes this sort of fiction to read it as well.

Yes! That is so good. I read the first 4 or 5 before getting sick of the series, but I really love Jamie and Claire's relationship! My mom put me on to them and it was so worth the read.

I'm reading William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope by Ian Doescher. It seems like a campy joke, but it's actually pretty well written. Doescher not only faithfully translates the events of the first Star Wars movie into Elizabethan delivery, but he also channels the Bard in his crafty turns of phrase. He pulls out all the stops in the realms of lyric and wit. He includes perhaps too many soliloquys and asides, but I think you'll forgive him in the context of the work as a whole. I can't recommend it enough.

A few Star Wars fans from a church got together and did a reading of this sometime last year. I was busy so I wasn't able to attend, but it sure sounded fun!

I just picked up The Princess Bride. Now...it's one of my favorite movies, so I'm hoping to not ruin either for myself as I can't seem to see books and their respective movies as separate entities. I tend to judge a movie more harshly once I've read the book :/

I've been dying to read it, I've just never picked it up until now.

Unless you are very, very lucky to have gotten an original...I'm going to assume you are reading Goldman's version of the book. It's pretty true to the movie (considering he wrote the screenplay and all). I, actually, really enjoyed his side notes within the story telling little tidbits about what he left out from the original and why and how he talked about his dad having read him the original when he was sick (much like the chars in the movie) and how he recommended the book to his son to read and so and so forth.

From what I remember reading, there actually is no original. He totally made it all up. He keeps saying stuff about the sequel but it's hard to translate or whatever. Also false. I just think he doesn't quite know how to top the original. I think he did release some chapters from the sequel, and I think I found them on Wikipedia.
